Visalia, CA - Victor Labrada's three-run homer helped the Modesto Nuts to a 5-4 win over the Visalia Rawhide on Sunday afternoon at Recreation Ballpark.
The win completes a six-game sweep for the Nuts (32-22) over the Rawhide (13-41). It was their eighth straight win.
The Rawhide snuck an unearned run across in the fourth inning before the Nuts came back against Junior Mieses (L, 1-3) in the fifth. Kennie Taylor and Brett Rodriguez singled before Victor Labrada launched a three-run homer over the line score in right field. Taylor added an RBI single in the eighth. Mieses worked 4.2 innings allowing four runs on five hits.
In the fifth inning, the Rawhide got two runs back on a Lyle Lin RBI single and a Glenallen Hill RBI double. Kelvin Nunez came into the game after that and turned in a perfect sixth inning. Juan Mercades (W, 4-1) worked a scoreless seventh and struck out two in the eighth before leaving the game with one on and one out.
Luis Curvelo (S, 4/4) got the final out of the eighth inning. He allowed an RBI fielder's choice in the ninth but was able to strand the tying run at third base to secure the win.
Modesto has Monday off before starting a six-game series with the Stockton Ports on Tuesday night at 7:05pm at John Thurman Field.
