LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Friday, February 28, 2014) - The LA Galaxy announced on Friday that the club has signed 31-year-old defender Dan Gargan. Entering his ninth MLS season, Gargan has made a total of 131 appearances, tallying two goals and nine assists since being drafted from Georgetown University in 2005. Per club and league policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"We are pleased to add Dan Gargan to our roster," said LA Galaxy Head Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena. "Dan's experience in the league and ability to play multiple positions across the backline provides us solid defensive depth."
A product of Philadelphia, Penn. Gargan was drafted by the Colorado Rapids with the 43rd overall pick in the fourth round of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft. Gargan spent his first three professional seasons with the Rapids, accumulating 49 league appearances. In April of 2008, Gargan signed with Chivas USA but retired due to personal reasons without playing a single match. He eventually returned to MLS in 2010 with Toronto FC after a year with the Puerto Rico Islanders of the USL First Division. While with TFC, Gargan made 43 MLS regular season appearances, scoring one goal and notching four assists.
In July of 2011, Gargan was traded to the Chicago Fire. During one-and-a-half seasons at Toyota Park, the fullback was a starting lineup staple, accumulating 31 appearances, scoring a goal and adding an assist while playing primarily at right back.
The veteran defender was selected in the 2012 MLS Re-Entry Draft by the San Jose Earthquakes where he spent the entire 2013 season, making eight appearances and six starts for the Quakes.ÃÂ
