Red Bull New York News Release
HARRISON, NJ (March 7, 2014) - The New York Red Bulls announced today that the team signed defenders Chris Duvall and Ambroise Oyongo and midfielder Eric Stevenson. Duvall and Stevenson were both selected by New York in the second round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and Oyongo previously played for Cameroonian side Coton Sport FC.
"We are pleased to sign all three players," said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. "They all showed in preseason that they have potential and we look forward to their contributions to the team in the coming season."
The Red Bulls selected Duvall, 22, from Wake Forest University with the 22nd overall pick of the 2014 SuperDraft. He was at Wake Forest for four seasons and in 2013 he mainly featured as a right back, playing in 14 games for Wake Forest and recording three assists. In 2012, Duvall played more minutes than any other player on the Wake Forest roster, recording 1,637 minutes on the field with one goal and three assists. During his freshman season at Wake Forest, Duvall appeared in every game, including 16 starts, and led the team in assists with four. In preseason play with the Red Bulls, the Georgia native appeared in four games, including one start against Orlando City SC.
Stevenson, 23, was New York's 34th overall pick at the 2014 SuperDraft. During the 2013 season at the University of Akron, Stevenson played in 22 games, making 21 starts. He finished the season with five goals and five assists. He was an All-Great Lakes Region Third Team honoree and also earned All-MAC First Team honors. In 2012, he was named to the All-MAC Second Team after starting all 22 matches for Akron. Stevenson enjoyed a breakout season, scoring seven goals, recording five assists, and finishing third on the team in points with 19. The Columbus, OH native featured in three preseason matches for the Red Bulls. Oyongo, 22, signed with the Red Bulls after previously playing for Coton Sport FC in Cameroon since 2010. Oyongo, who primarily plays at left back, has played internationally at the senior and youth level for Cameroon. With Cotonsport FC, Oyongo won three Cameroon Premiere Division titles in 2010, 2011, and 2013 and the Cameroon Cup in 2011. Oyongo appeared in four preseason games.
The Red Bulls will begin the defense of their Supporters' Shield and 2014 regular season schedule at BC Place, hitting the road to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC this Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 PM. The Red Bulls' first regular season game at Red Bull Arena is on March 15 against the Colorado Rapids at 4:00 PM.
