March 7, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Friday, March 7, 2014) -- The Houston Dynamo have entered into an agreement with KTMD TV Telemundo Houston as its official Spanish-language TV partner, it was announced today.
Under the deal, Telemundo Houston will broadcast seven Dynamo games in 2014 (see full schedule below). Game broadcasts will air Saturdays from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The broadcasts will immediate follow Telemundo's popular national sports show, "Titulares Telemundo."
"This is an amazing development for the Dynamo. To be partnered with a leading Spanish-language network is something we have desired for a long time," said Dynamo president Chris Canetti. "This partnership indicates the rapid growth of the Dynamo and MLS. We are extremely excited to work with Telemundo and use the strength of their platform to help us communicate and connect with the Hispanic community here in Houston. I'd like to thank Telemundo for its belief in our brand and express our excitement in working together."
Diego Lopez-Maradona and Luis Marquez will serve as play-by-play and commentary hosts for Dynamo broadcasts on Telemundo Houston. Furthermore, KTMD-TV will provide weekly Dynamo updates and highlights during their local newscasts, "Noticiero Telemundo Houston," at 5 and 10 p.m.
This agreement completes the Dynamo's broadcast platform, which includes a local television partnership with Comcast SportsNet Houston (CSN). Additionally, Houston will have a total of 12 nationally-televised games during the 2014 season. The platform also includes local radio partnerships with GOW Media (1560 AM, 97.5 FM) and Liberman Broadcasting (850 AM, Spanish).
" Telemundo Houston is excited to partner with Houston Dynamo and provide the third-largest US Hispanic community with local Spanish-language broadcasts of Dynamo soccer games, during what we anticipate will be another championship season for Houston," said Tony Canales, President and General Manager for KTMD-TV. "This broadcast and promotional partnership demonstrates Telemundo Houston's continued local community participation and our goal to deliver the most relevant on-air content to our local viewers."
The Dynamo open the 2014 season on Saturday, March 8 when they host the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. at BBVA Compass Stadium. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please call 713-276-7500 or log on to www.houstondynamo.com.
