La Crosse Loggers News Release

La Crosse turned into "comeback city" last night in an epic come-from-behind victory at home, extending their winning streak to seven games.

Toeing the slab for the Lumberman was Edward Berry (Swarthmore College), making his fourth start of the season. Berry's outing was a grind, however, despite walking 5 batters, he left 11 stranded and did not allow an earned run through 4.0 innings. Grady Gorgen (Troy) picked up his 3rd win, tossing 1.2 innings, in which he surrendered a run on 3 hits and 3 strikeouts. Trey Frahm (Nebraska) came out of the bullpen throwing gas, touching 96 MPH, and earned his 4th save of the summer.

The Express were able to conjure up hits all evening, but were unable to bring them home, as they left 21 baserunners stranded. Ben Taxdahl (St. Thomas) led the way offensively, going 3-5 with 2 RBIs. Joe Yorke (Cal Poly) and Sam Kuchinski (Montevallo) also contributed, each posting 2 hits.

Eau Claire's starting hurler was Jarred Lessman (Iowa Western CC), who turned in a terrific outing. Up until the 6th frame, the southpaw had Loggers hitters on lockdown. Through 5.1 innings of work, Lessman gave up an earned run on 2 hits and 8 strikeouts. Luke Trahan (Dallas Baptist) and Adam Stanton (Iowa Western CC) both fell victim to an offensive barrage, allowing 5 earned runs collectively.

Until late, the Loggers were on the verge of being shutout and losing their winning streak. Nonetheless, due to a combination of clutch hits and aggressive base running, they notched 9 runs after the 6th inning. Mac Danford (UT-Martin) was instrumental in the comeback, smacking a 2 RBI double off the wall in left to bring his team within a run. Danford would then come around to score, taking the lead 6-5. The Lumberman eventually scored 3 more insurance runs in the 8th. On the night, Danford went 2-5 with a double and 2 RBIs. Jack Haley (Cal State Fullerton) and Connor Walsh (Rice) each went 1-2 and scored 2 runs.

The Loggers will look to extend their winning streak as they travel to Waterloo this morning for a two-game set. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:25pm CT at Riverfront Stadium.
