June 19, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Willmar Stingers News Release
WILLMAR, MN - The Willmar Stingers swept the Duluth Huskies tonight, 3-2.
Jack Habeck stole the show throwing the second complete game of the Northwoods League Season. The lefty from St. Cloud State threw all nine innings, without giving up any earned runs while striking out seven. He now has four wins on the season which leads the league. For his outstanding performance on the mound, Habeck was named the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game.
For the second game in a row, The Huskies would jump out to an early lead when the Duluth's Noah Marcelo hit an RBI single in the second. The Stingers would respond in the bottom of the third when Zac Corbin and Scott Anderson were both able to send runs across home plate. The Huskies would go on and score in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.
The deadlock was broken when Will Hodo sent a pitch deep to left field in the seventh for his first home run of the season. The score would move to 3-2 and Habeck closed the game out. Duluth's Jake Christianson would be given the loss for giving up the Hodo homer.
The Duluth Huskies fall to 10-9 and have lost the last five straight. Despite their losing streak, the Huskies are only two games back behind the Great Plains East-leading Eau Claire Express.
The Willmar Stingers move to 12-8 on the season and have won three straight. They are just 3.5 games behind the St. Cloud Rox at the top of the Great Plans West.
The Stingers have been on fire winning 9 of their past 11 games. They are looking to continue their winning ways against the Rox when their home-and-home series starts tomorrow. The first game of the series takes place tomorrow at 7:05 pm in Bill Taunton Stadium.
