Kane County Cougars News Release
APPLETON, Wisc. - Jake Kuebler made some Kane County Cougars history on Wednesday night, as he became the sixth player in the team's 21-year history to hit three home runs in one game. Kuebler scored four runs, and the Cougars hit five homers total as they outslugged the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 10-7, at Time Warner Cable Field. The Cougars have won the opener of all five of their 2nd Half series and now own a two-game lead for first place in the Western Division.
Kuebler homered off each of the three pitchers Wisconsin used. He nailed a two-out solo blast in the second off Del Howell (1-4) to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Then he belted a long, two-run shot to left-center in the seventh off Dan Britt to make it 9-3 and followed with a solo connection in the ninth against Skyler Crawford. Kuebler joins a list of Cougars with three-homer games that includes Texas Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz and '06 Midwest League MVP Jeff Baisley. Yowill Espinal and Brian Fletcher also joined the mix with solo shots, as the Cougars hit a season-best five home runs in the contest and have totaled 23 round-trippers in their 13 games since the all-star break. They had 31 homers in 69 games in the 1st Half.
Mitch Hodge (2-0) got the relief win after working three innings, and spot starter Santiago Garrido gave up one run on two hits in four innings in a no-decision. Chas Byrne gave up four runs in the bottom of the ninth, as the Cougars' 10-3 lead became 10-7, before recording the final out.
The Cougars (9-4, 37-45) and Timber Rattlers (7-6, 45-38) continue the three-game set Thursday afternoon at 12:05 CT. Leondy Perez (2-8, 3.44) is scheduled to start against Matt Miller (2-4, 4.74). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online via kccougars.com with pregame coverage starting at 11:50 a.m.
