Seager Is Latest Former LumberKing Called to Majors

Clinton, IA - The sixth former Clinton LumberKing to make a Major League debut in 2011 has just been announced by the Seattle Mariners. Infielder Kyle Seager, a member of the 2009 club, has been called up from triple-A Tacoma and will be in uniform with the Mariners as they open up a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.

Seager, 23, joined Clinton in 2009 shortly after a third-round selection in that year's June draft out of the University of North Carolina. He played in 41 games with the LumberKings, hitting .275 with eight doubles, a home run and 22 RBI before moving up to High Desert by year's end.

In 2010, he led all of Minor League Baseball in hits (192) and runs scored (126) while playing for High Desert, hitting .345 with 40 doubles, 14 home runs and 74 RBI. Seager began this season in double-A Jackson hitting .312 with 25 doubles, four home runs and 37 RBI in 66 games for the Generals and had played in just 12 games with Tacoma prior to getting the call with the Mariners. Seager torched PCL pitching in his brief time with the Rainiers, hitting .455 with four doubles, a triple, two home runs and 12 RBI.

Seager (#15) joins right-handers Blake Beavan, Josh Lueke and Tom Wilhelmsen as former LumberKings to be called up by the Mariners this season. On Sunday, Beavan made his first start with the Mariners against San Diego and earned the win with a run over 7.0 innings.

Right-handers Maikel Cleto (St. Louis) and Cody Eppley (Texas) have also made big-league debuts this season. Once Seager plays, he will be the 230th former Clinton player to appear in a Major League game dating back to the franchise's inception in 1937.
