Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Bandit starter Ryan Copeland dominated Burlington batter's Wednesday night, only for the Bandits to allow four runs in the ninth, losing 4-3. The left-hander went seven one-hit innings while striking out five Bees and holding them scoreless through his seven frames.
The Bandits were leading 1-0 entering the ninth innings after Jonathan Rodriguez (1-for-3, 1 RBI) hit his 12th home run of the season in the second inning. In the ninth however, Colin Walsh (1-for-3, 2 RBI) hit a two-RBI double to give the Bandits a 3-0 lead entering the bottom of the ninth.
Copeland was relieved by Aiden Lucas (1-2), who entered the game in the eighth an induced three groundouts for 1-2-3 inning. Then in the ninth, Lucas induces two groundouts and has the bases clear with two outs. Shortly, thereafter he allowed a walk and a single, before Victor Sanchez made a throwing error to load the bases. Then, Bees designated hitter Josh Whitaker took a 2-1 pitch, and hit it out of the park for a walk off grand slam.
Copeland was opposed by Bees starter Josh Bowman. The right-hander went seven strong innings himself, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five. Drew Tyson (4-2) relieved Bowman in the eighth and went two innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out one.
The Bandits return to action tomorrow when they travel to Burlington. Seth Blair (4-3, 4.34) will oppose Bees starter Blake Hassebrock (4-4, 1.89). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Community Field in Burlington, Iowa.
