Kuchmey solid in 27-save win
February 28, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
Dalen Kuchmey made 27 saves and Ben Johnson had the game-winning goal, as the Spits made it back-to-back wins with a 4-1 victory over the Barrie Colts Thursday night before 5,612 at the WFCU Centre.
The game was an hour and 22 minutes late to start, as bad weather delayed Barrie's arrival.
But it was the Colts that came out with all the energy, carrying play for the majority of the first period while holding the Spits without a shot for the first 12 minutes.
But a key 5-on-3 penalty kill sparked Windsor (36-22-3-0), which got goals from Remy Giftopoulos (23) and Johnson (24) to take a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Two more goals from Sam Povorozniouk (18) and Ryan Foss (13) in a 1:46 span of the second gave the Spitfires all the offense they would need.
Ryan Moore kicked in a pair of assists, earning third star honours.
Kevin Labanc scored the only goal for Barrie (31-26-1-2) at the 6:33 mark of the third period, spoiling Kuchmey's shutout bid.
The Spits are now off until Saturday, when they travel to Plymouth to take on the Whalers.
