Syracuse Crunch News Release
Albany, NY - Nikita Kucherov led the Syracuse Crunch to a 4-1 victory of the Albany Devils tonight at the Times Union Center.
Kucherov's four points (2g, 2a) guided the Crunch to their fourth consecutive victory and an overall record of 5-2-1-0. JT Brown also scored twice and Vlad Namestnikov contributed three assists to round out the Crunch offense.
The Crunch penalty kill unit had a perfect outing stopping all six Albany man-advantages. Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped 24 of 25 shots faced for his second win of the season.
Kucherov tallied twice in the opening frame to send the Crunch into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead over the Devils. Kucherov's first goal came during a five-on-three man-advantage 13:51 into period. The Crunch doubled their lead after Kucherov's centering pass deflected off the skate of an Albany defender and past Devils netminder Scott Wedgewood with five minutes to play.
Albany left wing Reid Boucher made it 2-1 halfway through the second stanza. The Devils had a three-on-two opportunity after intercepting a Crunch outlet pass and Boucher's shot from the slot trickled through Desjardins' pads and over the goal line.
Brown extended the Crunch lead with two third period tallies. His first came at the 6:44 mark when he redirected a Kucherov shot past Wedgewood. Brown struck again with 9:46 to play in the final frame for his second career multi-goal game.
The Crunch face another Thruway rival when they host the Rochester Americans at the War Memorial Arena on Friday, November 1 at 7 p.m.
