Falcons Defeated by Phantoms, Drop Third Straight

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (5-2-0-1) were defeated by the Adirondack Phantoms (3-4-0-2) by the final score of 2-1 at the Glens Falls Civic Center Wednesday night.

Special teams played a major role in the contest, as both of Adirondack's goal were score on the power play - a Kris Newbury tally at 15:03 of the second period and a Chris VandeVelde tally at 12:24 of the third period.

Adirondack was 2-for-5 with the man advantage, while the Falcons went 0-for-6 on the power play.

Springfield cut the deficit in half at 13:11 of the third period when Lukas Sedlak buried a loose puck into the back of the net. For the rookie Sedlak, the score was his third of the season, tying him with Jake Hansen for the team lead.

With under a minute left in regulation and the Springfield net empty, the Falcons worked on a 6-on-4 advantage after a Bruno Gervais slashing minor. Patrick McNeill's slap shot from the high slot rang off the post, and the Falcons were unable to even the score late.

Jeremy Smith (3-1-1) stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced in net for Springfield, losing in regulation for the first time this season. Adirondack netminder Cal Heeter (2-2-0) made 27 saves on 28 shots.

The Falcons are back head back home to host the Hartford Wolf Pack on back-to-back nights - Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2. Friday's game will be preceded by the Falcon Cup - a Division III college hockey game between Western New England University and Westfield State University - at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's contest features the Big Y box office discount, shaving five dollars off the box office price of all adult tickets when showing a Big Y card. The offer is available only at the MassMutual box office before 5:00 p.m. the day of the game. Fans are also encouraged to bring canned soup to the game, which will be donated to Friends of the Homeless. Both Friday and Saturday's games begin at 7:00 p.m.
