Delayed Hat Trick Celebration Planned on Nov 1 in Worcester
October 30, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Worcester Sharks News Release
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Sharks (@WorcesterSharks), proud American Hockey League affiliate of the San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) announced today that the club will have a delayed celebration of their first hat trick in 264 games with a Worcester Sharks hat giveaway and throw back on Friday, November 1 when the Sharks host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:30pm at the newly renovated DCU Center.
Worcester Sharks forward Daniil Tarasov recorded three goals in the Sharks last game in Springfield on Saturday in Worcester's 3-1 victory over the Falcons. Tarasov scored his third goal of the game at 15:22 of the 2nd period, the 1st Sharks hat trick since February 14, 2010 when Dan DaSilva scored three goals in a 5-2 win at Manchester. The 263 game streak without a hat trick was the longest active streak in the AHL. No Worcester player has recorded a hat trick on home ice in more than four years, or since P.J. Fenton had one on Feb. 28, 2009 in the Sharks' 7-3 victory over Springfield.
Unfortunately for Tarasov, the hat trick occurred in enemy territory, and the 22-year old winger did not have any hats thrown onto the ice for his accomplishment.
"It would have been nice for someone to throw at least one hat," said Tarasov. "If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around... does it make a noise? The same can be said for a hat trick... if someone scores three goals and no one throws a hat... is it still a hat trick -
The first 100 fans will receive a Worcester Sharks hat and are encouraged to throw the hats after the 1st intermission when Tarasov's 3rd goal will be shown throughout the arena. In addition, fans are also encouraged to bring/purchase a hat to throw in honor of Tarasov's hat trick. Daniil will collect the hats and donate them during the Hat and Mittens Holiday postgame skate on November 10.
