Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. â The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes placed first baseman Casey Kotchman on the disabled list, retroactive to May 8, with a strained right hamstring Saturday.
Kotchman, who batted .281 with 30 doubles, five home runs and 50 RBI last season for the Kernels, had missed the previous eight games because of the injury. He was batting .323 with four home runs and 14 RBI this season for the Quakes.
Rancho Cucamonga also placed infielder Derek Mann on the disabled list, retroactive to May 8, with a right elbow strain.
Replacing Kotchman and Mann on the roster are pitcher Bryan Williams and outfielder Jason Sugden, both from extended spring training. Williams started the season with the Kernels and was 0-0 with a 7.94 ERA in seven appearances covering 11 1/3 innings. He was assigned to extended spring training on April 25 when James Holcomb was assigned to the Kernels from extended spring training.
