Konopka joins Anaheim

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim have agreed to terms with center Zenon Konopka on a two-year entry level contract.

Konopka, 23, had seven goals and four assists with a team-leading 198 penalty minutes in 43 games with Utah of the American Hockey League last season. The 6-foot-0, 210-pounder also played in 23 games with Idaho of the ECHL, recording six goals and 22 assists with 82 penalty minutes. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native added seven goals and eight assists in 17 games for Idaho in the 2004 ECHL playoffs, helping the team capture the league championship.

Konopka began his professional career in 2002-2003, playing with both Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton of the AHL and Wheeling in the ECHL that season. He played four seasons of junior hockey with Ottawa of the OHL from 1998-2002, recording 53 goals and 132 assists in 242 games.

Konopka will join the majority of Anaheim's top prospects for a rookie camp September 9-13 at Disney Ice in Anaheim, California. He is expected to begin the 2004-2005 season with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the AHL.
