Houston Aeros News Release
Houston, Texas â The Houston Aeros have announced that they will target Houston-area kids for their second annual Chronicle in Education Game on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 11:05 a.m. when the Utah Grizzlies visit the Toyota Center. Last season, more than 4,000 children from 60 schools witnessed the Aeros beat Grand Rapids 4-1 on Chronicle in Education Day.
"We're very excited to partner with âChronicle in Education' for the second consecutive year and bring the sport of hockey into the classroom," said Aeros community programs director Aron Anderson. "Last year's response to the program was remarkable and we're looking forward to building upon it this season."
Starting in early January, participating schools will receive a lesson plan booklet that ties in the game of hockey with the school curriculum, including geography and math. The booklets will help the kids prepare for the TAKS and TEKS test. Students will also receive an Aeros diploma of completion and will receive their "Final Exam" at the February 8 game. Tickets for the Chronicle in Education Day are $8. Boxed lunches will be available for $5.
"For many of our kids this was their first hockey game, so it was very exciting for them," said Barrow Elementary's Cherish Griffin. "The educational booklets that were provided by The Houston Chronicle helped turn this fun experience into something the kids could learn from as well. The Aeros staff was a tremendous help to us at the game as they helped get our group into the arena to our seats, and escorted us out to the bus after the game. We can't wait for the Chronicle in Education game again this season!"
Schools interested in participating in the Chronicle in Education Day should call Aron Anderson at 713.361.7942 or Mike Krompf at 713.361.7919.
