Komets sweep home double-header

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets swept both games of the home double-header over the weekend to improve to 4-1-0 after the first 5 games of the 2006-07 UHL campaign and top the Western Division with 8 points.

Friday night the Komets stopped the visiting Hogs from Rockford 7-3. Jonathan Goodwin (RW) and Guy Dupuis (D) each notched a pair of goals. Goodwin added 3 assists for a 5-point night. Dupuis added 2 assists for a 4-point evening while Bruce Richardson (C) passed 4 helpers. Kevin St. Pierre recorded the win stopping 33 of 36 Rockford shots. It was the second straight win over Rockford this season in 2 outings with 7 meetings remaining.

Saturday the Komets completed their sweep of the home double-header weekend turning back the Bloomington Thunder 4-1. J.C. Ruid (LW) registered his first 2-goal night of the season. St. Pierre took his 3rd straight win in his 5th straight start making 15 saves on 16 Thunder shots.

Nearly 16,000 fans were in attendance for the two Komet home games (15,828). Fort Wayne leads the UHL in attendance with an average of 8,628 for the first 3 home games of the season.

This week the Komets prepare for 3 games in 3 nights starting Friday. The Komets travel to Quad City for the Mallards home opener Friday night at 8pm Fort Wayne time. Saturday the Komets return home to host the Port Huron Flags at 7:30pm. Sunday the Komets head for Flint to skate against former Komet coach Al Sims and the Generals at 4pm.

Goodwin, St. Pierre earn weekly UHL honors.....the UHL announced Monday that Komet right winger Jonathan Goodwin has been named the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Komet goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of Oct. 23, 2006. Goodwin completed the week scoring 6 points (3g, 3a) in the 2 games played and is riding a 4-game point-scoring streak (4g, 5a) and 3-game goal-scoring streak (5g). St. Pierre finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, 2.00 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. St. Pierre has won his last 3 straight outings and has started all 5 Komet games to date.

Special K's.....the Komets lead the UHL with 14 power play goals in 45 chances after 5 games for a league-best 31.1% rating. The Komets penalty kill unit did not surrender a power play goal in the 2 games played for the week going 13/13.

Hitting the 300 mark.....Bruce Richardson (C) registered his 300th career point with his third assist of the game Friday night vs Rockford.

Streaking Komets......Daniel Goneau (LW) has a 5-game point streak (3g, 6a, 9pts).....Jonathan Goodwin (RW) is riding a 4-game point streak (4g, 5a, 9pts) and 3-game goal scoring streak (5g).....J.C. Welcome to Fort Wayne, USA.....the Komets announced Saturday that Jani Honkanen was added to the Komet roster in time for Saturday night's home game against Bloomington, his first pro game in the states. Honkanen, 27, had been practicing with the Komets and hails from Espoo, Finland. The defenseman has appeared with various teams in Finland including play in the elite Finish league SM-Liiga over the past 6 seasons.

Komet Hockey on WOWO.....most of the Komet games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio AM 1190 this year with Bob Chase at the Fort Wayne microphone for his 54th consecutive season. Again this year, some games will be aired on WKJG/ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when conflicts occur. All games aired on radio will also be available via the internet at Comcast KometCast at www.komets.com.
