Chicago Hounds News Release

Chicago Falls to Icehogs 3-2: The Chicago Hounds have recorded back-to-back losses after losing to Rockford by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night. Rockford netted the games first goal when Lukas Fritshaw put the puck behind Hounds goaltender, Marty Magers at 4:44 of the first period. The Hounds came roaring back when Todd Grant found the back of the net with less than two minutes left in the first period.

In the second, Adam Kostichka came out of the box and notched his second short-handed goal of the season at 1:19 giving the Hounds a 2-1 lead. After Mike Doyle poked the puck past Magers on a Rockford rush up ice the game was tied at two after two periods.

The winning goal was scored by Rockford on the power-play in the third period. Dan Boeser rifled a shot during a 5-3 advantage to give the IceHogs the win and even the season series at one game a piece.

Oh Captain, my Captain: Earlier this week, it was announced by head coach Greg Puhalski that Steve Cygan was named captain of the Chicago Hounds. Cygan, the former University of Alaska forward and UHL rookie of the year in 2003 was given the title at the Hounds open-house at the Sears Centre. Puhalski says Cygan gives them the veteran leadership every team requires as well as a great work ethic on and off the ice.

Open for Business: The brand new, state-of-the-art facility known as the Sears Centre is finally open for business. After delays in construction, the Centre hosted four concerts in four nights. Acts included: Bob Dylan, Duran Duran and Lionel Richie. The Chicago Hounds will be playing their first home game of the season at the Sears Centre on Friday, November 3rd against the Flint Generals.

Inter-State Rivalry Brewing: The Rockford Ice Hogs have taken on the Hounds twice and the teams have split the contests. With the fight between Darryl McArthur and Robin Big Snake taking place in the third period of Saturday's game, it is likely that this is just the tip of the iceberg. With the teams located less than an hour away from each other and placed in the same conference, every battle will be war for supremacy and a potential spot in the playoffs.

Short-Handed... No Problem! The tandem of Mike Broslma and Adam Kostichka are proving to be deadly on the penalty kill. Kostichka, the big 6 foot 5 forward has scored two shorthanded goals this is currently tied in the league for first in that category. Both men were members of U of W Steven's Point during their collegiate careers.

Mager Workload: Goaltender, Marty Magers has started every game for the Hounds since the season began. Goaltender Chris Houle is resting an upper-body injury, so Magers has taken the brunt of the workload in practice and during games. The last two games, Magers faced 40 shots or more while maintaining the second highest goals against average in the league at .937.

Bring on the Generals: The first home game of the season for the Hounds is finally happening on Friday and it will be versus the Flint Generals. Flint was home to the Hounds on October 20th and Magers stood out as the Hounds were victorious by a score of 5-0. The Generals look to gain some revenge and the Hound are trying to prove something on home ice for the first time in franchise history.
