Komets Streak Into March; Gems Visit Wednesday, Generals Return Sunday

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets completed the month of February with a perfect week collecting six points in three games and pulled to within a point of second-place Port Huron. After 20 weeks of 2009-10 the Komets have 69 points (33-16-1-2) to trail first-place Muskegon by 12 points with three games in hand and 24 games remaining, 14 at home and 10 on the road.

The Komets extended their road win streak to five games with wins at Quad City Wednesday and Dayton Friday and pushed their win string to four games with a 6-5 home victory Saturday against Flint.

This week the Komets will start the month of March skating four games in five nights beginning with another home test against Dayton Wednesday at 7:30pm. The Gems (21-31-3-1) are tied for the IHL cellar with Flint at 46 points and are coming off a 6-4 loss at Muskegon Sunday. The Komets won their first home meeting in three Dayton visits last Friday and lead the series 6-3-0-0.

Friday the Komets visit Bloomington for an 8:05pm faceoff. The PrairieThunder (25-22-2-5) are in fourth place and trail the Komets by 12 points entering March. Friday night's tilt will be the sixth and final trip of the season to Bloomington for the Komets where they lead 3-2-0-0 in five previous meetings. The Thunder are idle this week until they host Fort Wayne Friday.

Saturday the Komets skate at Flint at 7:30pm for the first of a home-and-home series to finish the weekend. The Komets lead the series 5-1-0-1 but are.500 in three previous meetings at Pearni Arena (1-1-0-1).

Sunday the Komets and Generals meet at 5pm on Coliseum ice where the Komets are a perfect 4-0-0-0 against Flint. The Generals will welcome Port Huron Wednesday before facing the Komets Saturday and Sunday.

Streaking Komets.....Matt Syroczynski has a three-game goal and point-scoring streak (5 goals, 2 assists); Colin Chaulk has points in four straight games (3 goals, 4 assists) and a three-game assist streak (4 assists); Konstantin Shafranov is riding a four-game point streak (1 goal, 4 assists); Goaltender Tim Haun has won four straight games and has a seven-game home win streak.

Dupuis sets another record.....Guy Dupuis' assist in Saturday's 6-5 home win over Flint set the regular season point record for a career Fort Wayne defensemen at 493. Dupuis eclipsed Lionel Repka's record of 492 set in 1968-69. Dupuis has 109 goals (Fort Wayne defenseman record) and 384 assists for 493 points and has appeared in a Komet-record 857 regular season games.

Drouin pushing 500.....left winger P.C. Drouin passed his 499th career assist in Friday's 4-2 win at Dayton. Saturday's home game against Flint was his 786th career game.

February leaders: Konstantin Shafranov and Colin Chaulk each led the Komets with 16 points in 12 February games. Chaulk led with 12 assists and three game winning goals while Matt Syroczynski topped the team with 10 goals. Frankie DeAngelis led in plus/minus with plus-10 and Brad MacMillan spent the most time in the sin bin with 56 minutes. Tim Haun led IHL goalies with a 1.95 goals-against average in seven appearances.

March roars in.....the Komets will begin the month of March skating four games in five nights this week and seven home games in 18 days. The first five Fort Wayne home games of the month span 11 days. The Komets will host three games in four nights next week, March 10 thru March 13. Overall, the Komets skate a season-high 14 games during the month.

The great Fort Wayne crowd.....10,480 turned out for the fourth sell-out of the season at Fort Wayne's 6-5 home win Saturday night against Flint. The Komets lead the IHL in attendance with an average of 8,010 per game and rank second in the nation in minor league hockey attendance after 24 home games.
