Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (March 1, 2010) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, today announced that the Mallards' Kyle Jones has been named IHL Goaltender of the Week for the second straight week and the third time in the last four weeks and that right wing Brandon Marino has been named the league's Rookie of the Week.

After stopping 22 Icehawk shots in the Mallards' 4-3 come from behind win in Muskegon last Friday night, Jones, 27, last Saturday evening set a league season high and a personal career high by making 52 saves in a 3-2 loss to the Gems in Dayton. Jones capped off the weekend by entering the Mallards' game against Bloomington yesterday late in the second period and turning aside all 12 shots he faced as Quad City pulled away for an 8-4 win. Over the three game stretch Jones posted a 2.38 goals against average and a.935 save percentage.

The 6' 0", 200-pound Jones has endured just one regulation defeat in his last seven appearances (2-1-0-2). The second year pro this season has gone 11-12-1-3 with a 3.08 goals against average and a.904 save percentage.

Jones came to the Mallards after going 9-16-2 with a 3.20 goals against average and a.903 save percentage in 32 games with the ECHL's Phoenix Roadrunners last season. Jones started 2008-09 with the AHL's Worcester Sharks, for whom he went 1-1-0 in three games while posting a 5.20 goals against average and a.756 save percentage.

Jones spent four remarkable seasons at St. Norbert College in Du Pere, Wisconsin, before breaking into the pro ranks. A three-time All-American, Jones won the 2007-08 Sid Watson Award as the nation's best Division III player. The award capped off a stellar senior campaign that saw Jones backstop the Green Knights to the national title while suffering just a single loss all season. Jones went 21-1-3 in 25 games while turning in a microscopic 1.09 goals against average, a sterling.950 save percentage and ten shutouts.

Over the course of his college career, Jones went 87-10-8 with a 1.69 goals against average, a.926 save percentage and 25 shutouts. He set NCAA Division III career records for both wins and shutouts while helping St. Norbert to four straight Northern Collegiate Hockey Association titles.

Marino, 24, scored two goals- including the game winner- and added two assists for a career high four points in yesterday's win over the PrairieThunder and finished the week with six points in four games. The Riverside, California, native kicked off the weekend by scoring in last Friday's victory over Port Huron and picked up an assist last Saturday night in Dayton.

The 5' 9", 185-pound Marino has scored ten goals and totaled 27 points in 52 games this season. Marino turned pro with the Mallards after completing his college career by helping Cinderella story Bemidji State to a berth in the 2009 NCAA Frozen Four. He scored seven goals and notched 19 points in 36 games during his senior season and collected 15 goals and 51 points in 166 games over his four years as a Beaver.
