IHL Awards Weekly Honors For Week Twenty

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Muskegon center Brian Bicek has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Quad City right wing Brandon Marino has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Quad City goaltender Kyle Jones has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 28th, 2010.

Bicek completed the week with eight points (four goals, four assists) and a plus-one rating in four games played. He recorded three of his four goals Wednesday, netting his first hat trick of the season in the 7-3 win over Flint. He scored the three goals in a span of 3:27, the fastest three goals by an individual -˜Jacks player this season. Bicek is just one of three members of the Lumberjacks roster to play in all 55 games so far this season. The 24-year-old Downers Grove, Illinois native is currently riding a three-game point streak, scoring four goals and four assist for eight points during the streak.

Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Craig Macdonald, Dayton forward Mike Vaskivuo, Flint forward John Mori, Fort Wayne left wing Matt Syroczynski, Port Huron forward Brandon Naurato and Quad City right wing Brandon Marino.

Marino capped off Week 19 of his rookie campaign scoring three goals and dishing out three assists in four games played by the Mallards. He began the week scoreless Wednesday, but cranked up the heat during the weekend, netting a goal in Friday's win in Port Huron and adding an assist the following night in the 3-2 loss in Dayton. Sunday, Marino had the biggest night of his young pro career, scoring two goals and two assists in the Mallards 8-4 win over Bloomington. One of his two goals was the game-winner, which was his third of the season. The 23-year-old Riverside, California native is the Mallard's second most productive rookie, having scored 27 points (9 goals, 11 assists) in 55 games played.

Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington center Matt McIlvane, Dayton forward Jon Ornelas, Flint forward John Mori, Fort Wayne right wing Sean O'Connor, Muskegon left wing Matt Robertson and Port Huron left wing Matt Maccarone.

Jones wins the weekly honor for the second straight week after finishing the week with a 1-1-0-0 record. He played in three of the Mallard's four games this week, making a relief appearance in Sunday's 8-4 loss to Bloomington. He played just over 25 minutes and gave up zero goals against in the relief effort. He posted an IHL and personal career high in Saturday's 3-2 loss in Dayton, making a total of 52 saves. Jones finished the week with a 2.38 goals against average and a.935 save percentage. The 26-year-old North Delta, British Columbia native leads all IHL goaltenders in shootout wins with five and is ranked third in saves with 855.

Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Sebastian Dahm, Dayton Derek MacIntyre, Flint's Rob Nolan, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher and Muskegon's Justin Grevious.
