Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets will continue their drive to qualify for post-season play this week. The Komets will skate four games in five nights beginning with a home stand against the Evansville IceMen Wednesday at 7:30pm. Friday the Komets travel to Kalamazoo for a 7:30pm faceoff at Wings Stadium. Saturday the Komets return home to host the Greenville Road Warriors in the only meeting of the season at 7:30pm. Sunday Evansville returns to the Memorial Coliseum as the Komets cap the week with a 5pm faceoff.
How they stand-Three weeks and 10 games remain on the 2012-13 docket for the Komets (29-30-3, 61 points). The top eight teams in the Eastern Division qualify for post-season play and the Komets trail eighth-place Greenville by 10 points in the race for playoff position. Below are the current ECHL Eastern Conference standings (thru games of 3/10/13):

About last week- The Komets hosted the season series of two games against Florida, falling 6-3 in the first ever meeting between the two teams Friday, snapping a brief three-game unbeaten string. Defenseman Jamie Milam scored his third goal in his 11th appearance of the season while Matt Firman (F) and Tyler Butler (D) also connected for the Komets in front of 9,087 fans. It was the fifth game this season the Komets had over 9,000 faithful in attendance.
Saturday the Komets stumbled 6-2 in the rematch against the Everblades at the Memorial Coliseum. Matt Syroczynski put the Komets on the board with his fourth tally in 18 Komet games and defenseman Jeremy Gates followed with his first pro goal to finish the Fort Wayne scoring for the night. Goaltender Jeff Deslauriers suffered the loss Saturday in his eighth consecutive appearance (3-4-1) between the Fort Wayne pipes. The last time a Komet goaltender had more consecutive starts in the regular season was Tim Haun with 15 straight starts during 2009-10 (Nick Boucher combined for 22 straight starts overall last season with four to end the regular season and 18 in the playoffs). 500 Club-Friday night center Colin Chaulk dished his 500th Fort Wayne career assist in the Komets' 6-3 setback to the visiting Everblades. Chaulk is skating his 15th pro year and 10th season with the Komets and has skated a total of 588 regular season games since 2002-03, his first season in Fort Wayne. By the numbers-The Komets are 12-0-0 when taking the lead into the second period, 17-2-1 when leading after the second period, 19-5-2 when scoring first, 20-12-1 when following a loss, 18-5-3 in one-goal games and 23-5-0 when reaching three goals in a game. Komet leaders-Brandon Marino (RW) 66 points (ranked fourth in ECHL), 46 assists (ranked third in ECHL), 14 power play assists.Marino and Thomas Beauregard 20 goals...Marino and Scott Kishel (D) +5...Kaleigh Schrock 155 penalty minutes..Marino 183 shots..Deslauriers, 3-4-1, 2.57 goals-against average, .915 save percentage. Iron man-Tyler Butler (D) has appeared in all 62 Komet games played this season. Butler also appeared in all 66 games with Arizona last season in the CHL.
KOMETS ON ICE THIS WEEK- . Wednesday, March 13, Evansville IceMen (22-35-5, 49 points) at Komets, 7:30pm ET-The Komets will skate the first of two meetings this week against the Evansville IceMen at the Memorial Coliseum when the puck drops Wednesday night at 7:30. Evansville enters this week residing in the Eastern Conference cellar and 22 points out of playoff position with 10 games remaining while riding a four-game losing streak. Wednesday's match is the 10th meeting of the season between the K's and IceMen with Fort Wayne holding the edge in the series 5-4-0. It's the fifth of six meetings in Fort Wayne with the Komets an even 2-2-0 vs. the IceMen on Coliseum ice after falling 4-2 in the last meeting Feb. 16 in Fort Wayne. After Wednesday's tilt in Fort Wayne, Evansville returns home to host Greenville Friday and Kalamazoo Saturday before returning to face the Komets Sunday.

Friday, March 15, Komets at Kalamazoo Wings (31-26-5, 67 points), 7:30pm ET-Kalamazoo is also fighting for playoff position as they enter the week four points behind Greenville and Toledo (71 points) for the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference race. Friday's game is the 14th of 16 meetings this season and the ninth of 10 Komet visits to Wings Stadium where they are 4-3-1 after eight visits. The Komets lead the season series 7-5-1 after dropping the last meeting 5-1 at Fort Wayne Feb. 1. Kalamazoo enters the week on a three-game win string and is idle until they host the Komets Friday.

Saturday, March 16, Greenville Road Warriors (32-24-7, 71 points) at Komets, 7:30pm ET-The Komets finally meet up with the Road Warriors for the first time ever Saturday in Fort Wayne for the only meeting of the season. Greenville and Toledo are tied with 71 points each entering the week, holding playoff spots seven and eight in the Eastern Conference. The Road Warriors are winless in their last five games (0-4-1) and will skate at Toledo Wednesday and Evansville Friday before traveling to Fort Wayne Saturday.
. Sunday, March 17, Evansville IceMen at Komets, 5pm-The Komets and IceMen collide for the second time this week when Evansville returns Sunday for a 5pm faceoff at the Memorial Coliseum. It's the last of five Komet Sunday home games of the season where the Komets are 3-1-0 when hosting the Sunday matinees.
INC Soundoff with the Komets Monday nights -- The Komets, Indiana's News Center and title sponsor PHP present a live weekly televised sports program on Monday nights at 7:30 on WPTA TV 21 Alive. The half-hour show is televised from the WPTA TV studios with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host and features highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts. Tonight, March 11, Komet head coach Al Sims will be Tommy's guest.
K's Wearin' of the green St. Patrick's Weekend-The Komets will be wearing the green when they are home for games this St. Patrick's Weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Special green Komet jerseys, sponsored by O'Daniel, will be worn in the games before they are raffled to benefit The Disabled American Veterans of Allen County and The Shadarobah Horse Rescue. The Komets will host Greenville Saturday and Evansville Sunday for the special St. Patrick's weekend on Coliseum ice.
Sunday Family Night at Komet Hockey-The Komets present Wendy's Family Night this Sunday when the IceMen visit at 5pm. Coupons for a Sundays Four-For-$28 ticket offer are available at Wendy's locations around the Fort Wayne area. Fans can bring their skates for a free open skate after this Sunday's Komet home game.
Season Ticket Exchange Night Sunday-Season Ticket Holders can exchange unused season tickets from previous 2012-13 Komet home games for tickets to this Sunday's game against Evansville. Tickets can be exchanged at the Coliseum Ticket Office.
