Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Net Perfect Weekend against Road Warriors

The South Carolina Stingrays hosted the Greenville Road Warriors at the North Charleston Coliseum for a three-game home weekend series this week for a record of 3-0-0-0. With the wins, the Stingrays extended their home point streak to a season-high 13 games (11-0-2-0) and overall point streak to six contests (4-0-2-0).

On Friday, the Stingrays erased a two-goal deficit to defeat the Road Warriors 3-2. Defenseman Luka Vidmar buried two goals and defenseman Scooter Vaughan grabbed the game-winning tally with 43 seconds remaining in regulation.

Goaltender Ryan Zapolski recorded his ECHL-leading eighth shutout Saturday, tying an ECHL all-time single-season record, making 22 saves in a 3-0 victory on Faith and Fun Night at the Coliseum. Defenseman Kevin Quick and forwards Alex MacLeod and Patrick Gaul provided the scoring.

The Stingrays completed the weekend with a 3-2 shootout win Sunday afternoon. Gaul added his fifth goal of the season and forward Chris Langow scored 53 seconds into the second period. In the shootout, forwards Tyler Johnson and Andrew Cherniwchan found the twine and Zapolski stopped four of five Road Warriors shooters to seal the victory.

Taking the Lead

The Stingrays are third in the South Division with 75 points and sixth overall in the Eastern Conference.

Forward Peter Boyd is tied for the lead in the ECHL with five shootout goals.

Goaltender Ryan Zapolski is first in the ECHL with a 1.64 goals-against average, a .940 save percentage and eight shutouts. The Erie, Pennsylvania, native is tied for second among netminders with 24 wins.

Forward Tyler Johnson is tied for second among ECHL rookies with two shootout-winning goals.
