
Komets hold Western lead at All-Star break

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets finished week 14 of the 2006-07 season with a 23-13-2 record and continue to lead the UHL Western Conference with 48 points after taking 3 points in 4 games for the week.
The Komets are an improved team over the same time last year. Improvements at the mid-way mark include the Komet's overall record (23-13-2 over 20-16-2), home record (13-5-1 over 11-8-0) and home attendance (per-game average of 7,641 over 7.466 last year after 19 home games). The Komets also improved in goals for (131 over 120) and have allowed fewer goals after 38 games (96 over 109).
The Komets will host the UHL All-Star Classic this Wednesday at the Memorial Coliseum starting with the skills competition at 7pm. The game will begin at 7:45pm with the finals of the skills competition to be completed during the first intermission. Komet head coach Pat Bingham will coach the Western Conference stars including Komets Kevin St. Pierre (G), Guy Dupuis (D), J.C. Ruid (C), Jonathan Goodwin (RW), Mario Larocque (D), and Martin Gascon (C). The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio AM 1380 and on the internet at www.komets.com Comcast KometCast with Bob Chase calling the action starting at 7:30pm.
The All-Stars will have a morning practice Wednesday at the Coliseum. The Western Conference stars will practice at 10am and Eastern Conference stars are slated to practice at 11am.
After the All-Star break, the Komets begin the second half of the season with a back-to-back home double-header starting Friday against the Kalamazoo Wings at 8pm. It will be the sixth of 10 meetings this season and the third of 5 in Fort Wayne. The Komets were clipped by the Wings at Kalamazoo last Saturday night 4-3 in a shootout in the last meeting. The Wings hold a 4-1 series lead over the Komets. Kalamazoo was unbeaten in 8 straight games before surrendering an 8-1 loss at Muskegon Sunday in their last outing.
Saturday the Komets will face the visiting Bloomington Thunder at 7:30pm in the fifth of 10 meetings this season. The Komets upended the Prairie Thunder Dec. 29 at Bloomington 5-3 in the last meeting to take a commanding 3-1-0 series lead. Bloomington has alternated wins and losses in their last 6 games and will play at Chicago Friday before traveling to Fort Wayne Saturday.

Milestones.....Pat Bingham coached his 400th career game Friday, Jan. 12 vs Muskegon.....Bogdan Rudenko (RW) scored his 100th career UHL goal Saturday, Jan. 13 at Kalamazoo.
