
Mallards Win Two of Three Before All-Star Break

Moline, IL-The Mallards cruised into the UHL All-Star Break with a 16-16-4 record after winning two of three games this weekend. This Wednesday night, four Mallards will take to the ice in Fort Wayne for the UHL All-Star Classic. Forwards Don Parsons, Chad Woollard, Brett Pilkington and Justin Chwedoruk will get a chance to display their skills at the mid-season showcase. This weekend, the team heads to Elmira for a three-game set vs. the Jackals.
Last week, the Mallards beat Bloomington 5-3 on Friday night at The MARK to end the team's longest home stand of 2006-07. Saturday night, the Rockford IceHogs handed Quad City a 7-2 defeat in the first game of a five game road trip. The Mallards bounced back on Sunday to earn an exciting 7-6 win in Bloomington.

The Mallards make their only appearance of the season at the First Arena in Elmira this weekend. The Jackals won a shootout at The MARK to earn a 5-4 win in the teams' only previous meeting. Don Parsons earned first star honors in the loss with a pair of goals and an assist.

Duck Talk on the Air
Duck Talk will not air this week as the Mallards journey to Fort Wayne for the UHL All-Star Game. The show returns next week at 6:00 p.m. at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge. Duck Talk can also be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.

Wednesday, January 10th - Kalamazoo 3 at Quad City 4 - Shootout
The Mallards earned their first shootout win of 2006-07 on Wednesday night vs. Kalamazoo. The 4-3 shootout victory marked the end of a stretch of four consecutive games against the top three teams in the UHL. During that stretch, Quad City notched a 2-1-1 mark including a 1-0-1 record vs. the Wings. Luke Stauffacher scored a pair of goals in regulation in the win over the Wings and added a shootout goal. In the first period, the Wings took a 1-0 lead on a power-play marker by Kory Karlander. It was the first of three power-play goals for the Wings on the night. At 5:08 of the second, Kalamazoo extended their lead to 2-0 on a power-play goal by Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn. Luke Stauffacher was in the box when the Wings scored, but quickly redeemed himself as he netted his first goal of the night just 13 seconds later to cut the Kalamazoo lead to 2-1. Patrick Nadeau knotted the score at two less than three minutes later when he tipped a Chad Woollard point shot into the Kalamazoo net during a Mallards power-play. The Wings recaptured the lead early in the third when Jeff Brown netted his second power-play goal in his last two games vs. Quad City. Kalamazoo protected their lead for much of the third period before Chris McAllister was called off on a slashing penalty at 15:20 of the third. Luke Stauffacher converted the power-play chance for his 14th goal of the year and second of the night. Stauffacher scored again in the first round of the shootout followed by a Sean Starke tally in the second round. Jason Tapp made four saves on five Wings shooters to earn the win in his 200th career game.
Friday, January 12th - Bloomington 3 at Quad City 5
The Mallards won a wild and wooly affair on Friday night at The MARK. Quad City's 5-3 victory featured three shorthanded goals, a hat trick, a milestone goal and a 55-save performance by the losing goaltender. The Mallards outshot Bloomington 60-19 in the win. With the victory, Quad City is at .500 (15-15-4) for the first time this year. Chad Woollard stole the show with two late goals to complete his first hat trick of 2006-07. Woollard scored the game-winning goal with 1:34 remaining in the game with Quad City on a power play. The veteran forward added an empty netter 27 seconds later to reach the 200-goal milestone for his career. Woollard's hat trick came against former Mallards netminder Jeff Reynaert who made a UHL-season high 55 saves in the loss. Woollard netted the only goal of the first period at 11:24 of the opening frame. Early in the second, Patrick Nadeau scored shorthanded to give the Mallards a 2-0 edge. Matt Radoslovich pushed the lead to 3-0 with his seventh goal of the year at 5:56 of the middle period. The PrairieThunder battled back to tie the game with three unanswered goals in the third period. Alex Goupil netted the first tally with 6:49 elapsed in the period. Tim Schneider scored shorthanded at 10:06 of the frame followed by another Goupil tally just 56 seconds later to tie the contest. After 18:26 of scoreless hockey in the third, Woollard scored his second goal of the night with 1:34 left to give Quad City the edge at 4-3. He added an empty net tally to reach the 200-goal milestone and set the final at 5-3.
Saturday, January 13th - Quad City 2 at Rockford 7
The Rockford IceHogs knocked off the Mallards by a final of 7-2 on Saturday at The MARK. The Hogs burst out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Rockford struck three times on the man advantage while Justin Chwedoruk was serving a five-minute major penalty. Robin Big Snake netted his seventh goal at 6:48 of the period followed by a Kevin Ulanski marker just 47 seconds later. Jesse Bennefield capped the trio of power-play goals by scoring his sixth tally of the year at 8:16 of the period. In the second, the Mallards scored twice to slice the Rockford lead to 3-2. Andrei Lupandin scored a 4-on-4 goal with a blast from the high slot at 2:04 of the period. Exactly 10 minutes later, Don Parsons netted his 26th goal of the year to pull the Mallards within one at 3-2. Mallards Captain Patrick Nadeau fed Parsons from behind the Rockford net and Parsons scored his league-leading 17th power-play goal. The Hogs secured the win with a four-goal outburst in the third period. Big Snake scored his second power-play goal of the contest at 2:08 of the final frame to extend the Rockford cushion to two goals. Mike Doyle scored at even strength four minutes later to stretch the lead to 5-2. The Hogs added a pair during a four-on-four stretch of play as Jesse Bennefield and Bryce Cockburn scored just 59 seconds apart.
Sunday, January 14th - Quad City 7 at Bloomington 6
The Mallards closed the first half of the 2006-07 season with a dramatic 7-6 win over Bloomington. Luke Stauffacher netted his second hat trick of the season in the win. In the first period, the PrairieThunder jumped to a 2-0 lead on goals by Mike Zbriger and John Booras. Stauffacher netted his first goal of the night at 5:11 of the opening period to cut the Bloomington lead in half. B.J. Gaustad answered back to re-open a two-goal edge at 3-1. The second half of the opening period belonged to the Mallards as Blake Stewart and Chad Woollard scored to tie the game at three after one period. In the second frame, Quad City scored three unanswered goals in just under eight minutes to take a 6-3 lead. Stauffacher scored twice in the first 6:34 of the period to earn his second hat trick of the season. Don Parsons added his team-leading 27th goal at 7:53 of the frame to put Quad City up by three. The PrairieThunder stormed back on goals by Mike Zbriger, Shawn Roed and Jarad Bourassa to tie the game at six after two periods. Quad City's Justin Chwedoruk netted the only goal of the third period to secure the Mallards 16th win of the year. With the victory, the Mallards finish the first half of the season at .500 (16-16-4).
Player of the Week
Luke Stauffacher is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. He recorded five goals and two assists for seven points in four games during the week.
Goalie of the Week
Jason Tapp is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He went 3-1-0 during the week with a pair of wins vs. Bloomington and a win over Kalamazoo.
