Komets extend Western Conference lead

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets won all 3 games played during the week of March 12 to extend their winning streak to a UHL high 4 games and home win string to 3 games. Defeating Port Huron, Rockford and Muskegon earned the Komets 6 points and pulled Fort Wayne within 4 points of league-leading Muskegon and cushioned the Komet's Western Conference first-place lead over Rockford to 5 points with 9 games and 3 weeks remaining in 2006-07.

Friday night the Komets dropped the Flags at Port Huron 5-2 to win the season series 4-2-0. Saturday the Komets completed their season series with Rockford turning back the Hogs 4-3 on Fort Wayne ice and captured the season series 6-3-0. Sunday the Komets stopped the Fury from Muskegon 5-1 and improved to 4-1-0 over the Fury this season with 2 meetings remaining.

The Komets improved to 44-20-3 for 91 points and reached the 90-point plateau for the 6th time in 8 UHL seasons.

This week the Komets skate 3 games in 3 nights starting Friday when the Komets host Quad City at 8pm. It's the 11th and final meeting of the season. The Komets hold a 6-3-1 series edge over the Mallards overall and 3-1-0 in Fort Wayne. Quad City currently holds the 3rd seed in the Western Conference with an 11-point margin over 4th-place Chicago. The Mallards, 2-3-0 in their last 5 outings, will host Bloomington Wednesday before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday.

Saturday the Komets head north to Muskegon to face the Fury at 7:30pm at Walker Arena for the 3rd and final time this season. The Komets are 2-0-0 in previous meetings at Muskegon and lead the series 4-1-0. Muskegon skates at Port Huron Wednesday and at Flint Friday before hosting the Komets Saturday.

Sunday the Komets return home for the final Sunday home game of the season at 5pm. The Chicago Hounds make their 5th and final visit of the season. The Komets lead the series 6-3-0 and are 3-1-0 against Chicago on coliseum ice. The Hounds have suffered only 2 regulation losses in their last 15 games (9-2-4) and are 3-1-1 in their last 5. Former Komet head coach Greg Puhalski takes his Hounds to Rockford Wednesday, visits Port Huron Friday and hosts Rockford Saturday before making the trip to Fort Wayne Sunday.

Milestones: J.C. Ruid (C) passed his 200th UHL career assist in the Komet's 5-2 win at Port Huron Friday....Brent Henley (D) skated his 300th career game Saturday vs Rockford.

Leading Komets....center J.C. Ruid continues to lead the Komets with 37 goals and is 2nd overall in the UHL with 80 points.....Guy Dupuis (D) leads with +21, 53 assists (2nd overall in the UHL) and leads all UHL scorers with 32 power play assists.....Mario Larocque tops UHL defensemen with 25 goals and 16 power play goals.....Kevin St. Pierre leads UHL goalies with 35 wins and in minutes with 3248:28.

Season Ticket Exchange Night.....this Sunday is another Season Ticket Exchange Night when the Komets host the Chicago Hounds at 5pm. Komet season ticket holders are encouraged to turn in their unused tickets from previous games this season for tickets to this Sunday's game. Unused season tickets can be exchanged for tickets at the Coliseum Ticket Office. Also, Komet fans are encouraged to bring canned good items to Sunday's game to benefit Community Harvest Food Bank.

Sunday skate with the Komets.....fans are encouraged to bring their skates to the game this Sunday when the Komets host the Chicago Hounds at 5pm. It will be the last Sunday game of the season for Komet fans to enjoy a free skate, courtesy of Wendy's.

Hukalo, Kiyaga, Goneau and Icy at Wendy's Tuesday.....Komet players David Hukalo, Arthur Kiyaga and Daniel Goneau will join Komet mascot Icy Eagle at Wendy's at Coldwater Road and Dupont Road Tuesday, March 20 from 5:30pm to 7pm to meet and greet Komet fans.

Komet Hockey on the air.....most of the Komet games are broadcast on WOWO Radio AM 1190 this year with Bob Chase at the Fort Wayne microphone for his 54th consecutive season. Again this year, some games will be aired on WKJG/ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when conflicts occur. All games broadcast will also be available via the internet at Comcast KometCast at www.komets.com .
