Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The United Hockey League on Monday announced that Rockford IceHogs center Preston Mizzi was named the Sherwood Player of the Week for Week 24 of the 2006-07 UHL regular season. Mizzi had one of the most productive offensive weeks for an IceHogs player in club history.
Overall, Mizzi netted 4g-7a-11pts in four games with a plus/minus rating of +5. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native began the week by helping with four goals in Rockford's 8-1 win over the Quad City Mallards on Wednesday night. On Friday, Mizzi chipped in a goal in Rockford's 4-2 defeat to the Kalamazoo Wings.
Mizzi then tallied twice in Fort Wayne on Saturday night and added an assist, nearly helping the IceHogs to an improbable final minute comeback over the Komets. Rockford did fall in the contest 4-3, but Mizzi set the Hogs club-record with his fourth short-handed goal of the season. On Sunday, the sixth-year center registered three more points (1g-2a) as Rockford picked up a point in the shootout against the Flint Generals.
The weekly honor is Mizzi's third of the season, the most by an IceHogs skater in any season. Mizzi was also recognized for his play following Weeks 15 and 16. Heading into Wednesday's game against the Chicago Hounds, Mizzi leads the IceHogs with 26 goals and is tied with Kevin Ulanski for the club lead in points with 63.
Next Home Game: Wednesday, March 21 vs. Chicago Hounds. The Hogs and Hounds meet at the MetroCentre for another Western Conference showdown. Wednesday is another Dollar Days with the Hogs and the rock station 104.9 FM, WXRX. That's regular size hot dogs, soft drinks, select candy items and peanuts for just $1.
