Fort Wayne Komets News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets completed Thanksgiving week with a 5-4 home win over the Quad City Mallards Saturday night at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne and for the first time this season ride a three-game win streak into next week's action.

Fort Wayne right winger Kaleigh Schrock was the star of the game posting Fort Wayne's first hat trick since Matt Syroczynski bagged a three-goal effort against Quad City last April 11 on Coliseum ice.

Schrock launched the Fort Wayne attack with two goals in 10 seconds at 17:13 and 17:23 of the first period to give the Komets a 2-1 lead. The Komet's record for the two fastest goals by a player is nine seconds set by Lloyd Maxfield in November, 1960.

The Komets followed Schrock's quick pair with three more unanswered tallies by Leo Thomas, Matt Curadeau, and Schrock again with the eventual game winner. Eric Giosa scored the Mallard's first goal and then trailing 5-1 Quad City came back with three unanswered goals by Mike McLean, Phil Axtell and Zac Pearson to pull within a goal but couldn't reach a tie.

The Komets took advantage of the extra man and scored three power play goals on eight chances to complete the three games of the week scoring eight power play goals on 20 chances for a 40% power play efficiency rating for the week. Quad City was 1/6 with the man advantage Saturday night.

Nick Boucher registered his second straight win making 21 saves on 25 shots. David Brown started the game for the Mallards and allowed all five Komet goals on 26 shots. Adam Russo made 14 saves in relief after entering the game at 9:06 of the second period.

The Komets are off until they host the Bloomington PrairieThunder Friday, Dec. 3 at 8pm for the only home game of the week next week. Saturday, Dec. 4 the Komets will skate at Dayton at 7:30pm.

Tickets for Komet home games are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at Ticketmaster.
