Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - It was a game rivalries are made of as Texas snapped the Mudbugs eight game winning streak in a gritty 5-3 win Saturday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre.

Brett Smith took a pass from Steven Crampton and shot it past Wayne Savage halfway through the first period for a Mudbug 1-0 lead, but the game didn't seem to pick up tempo until the middle frame as lamps were lit and gloves were dropped. An early penalty on Bossier set up a streaking Texas powerplay, and just :16 seconds in with the man advantage, Chad Woollard found the back of the net to tie the game. Three minutes later the Brahmas gained the lead when Todd Griffith charged toward the net and found the puck from linemate Matt Pierce and buried it for his second goal in as many nights. Shortly after, the team's rivalry was showcased with a trifecta of fights breaking out in a matter of five minutes; fisticuffs involved Nathan Saunders (TEX) and Mitch Love (BOS), Griffith (TEX) and Shane Hart (BOS), and Roger Maxwell (TEX) and Steven Crampton (BOS). Before the horn could sound for the intermission, a shot from Mudbug's forward Hart went top shelf to take the game to a 2-2 tie.

The Mudbugs regained their lead with a Steven Crampton goal at the 3:59 marker, but the celebration didn't last long when fan favorite Roger Maxwell took the ice and deflected a shot from Dan Riedel for his first goal of the season. A delayed penalty call on the Mudbugs gave Texas the extra attacker with four minutes remaining in the game and it was rookie Tyler Allen who gave the Texas offense the lead as he beat Brian Foster for the 4-3 lead. After that, there was no looking back for a fiery Texas squad, especially following the nail in the coffin in the form of a Matt Pierce goal for a Brahmas 5-3 win.

The Brahmas powerplay went 1 for 4 on the job and Wayne Savage stopped 29 shots on goal for the victory. With an assist on the Brahmas first goal, Greg Hogeboom stretched his pointstreak to four games.

The Brahmas conclude their homestand next weekend when they host the Missouri Mavericks Friday night on ‘Puck Night'; the first 1000 fans at the 7:30 game will receive a puck courtesy of Cabelas. On Saturday night the Brahmas host the Colorado Eagles on ‘Teddy Bear Toss' night. Fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to the game to toss onto the ice following the first Texas goal; toys will be donated to the Community Enrichment Center of North Richland Hills. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.

- Prior to the game, the Brahmas recognized former team captain Craig Minard in a special on-ice presentation. The City of North Richland Hills declared November 27, 2010 Craig Minard Day. Minard, a member of both the Brahmas and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in his career, retired early in the season.
