Quad City Mallards News Release
Fort Wayne, Ind. (November 27, 2010) - Kaleigh Schrock notched a hat trick and the host Fort Wayne Komets survived the Quad City Mallards' comeback bid on the way to a 5-4 win Saturday night.
The Komets ripped off five straight goals after the Mallards' Eric Giosa opened the scoring with a tip-in at 7:44 of the first period. Schrock triggered the Fort Wayne goal rush by scoring a close range power play goal to tie the game at one at 17:13 of the first. Just ten seconds later Schrock crashed the net to give Fort Wayne a 2-1 lead. The Komets were again on the power play when Leo Thomas's one timer produced the third Komet goal in a minute and fifty-four seconds with just 53 seconds left in the period.
The Komets scored twice in 45 seconds to stretch the gap to 5-1 in the second period. Mathieu Curadeau scored a power play goal from the slot to make it 4-1 at 8:21 of the second. At 9:06 Schrock completed his hat trick with a drive from the left wing circle. Adam Russo replaced David Brown in the Mallard net in the wake of Schrock's third goal.
Undaunted, the Mallards would battle back to close within one. Mike McLean started the rally at 10:52 of the second with a wrist shot from the right wing circle. Phil Axtell scored his first career goal from the doorstep to cut the Komet lead to 5-3 at 17:22 of the second.
The Mallards were on the power play when Zach Pearson tipped the puck home and made it 5-4 at 5:22 of the third, but despite a game effort the Mallards were unable to produce a tying goal in the third period.
Prior to the game the Mallards activated left wing Axtell and defenseman Bobby Preece and waived left wing Mark Ehl.
