
Bucks Lose Second Straight in OT

SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Mississippi Riverkings 5-4 in overtime Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. The Bucks lost their second overtime game in as many nights as they fall to 6-8-3 (15 points) on the season. The Bucks finished their three-game road trip 1-0-2.
Jeff Christian scored two goals including the game-winner with just 52 seconds left in overtime to lift the Riverkings to 8-9 (16 points) on the season.
Jeff Bes (2-13) and Neil Trimm had three points apiece to lead the Bucks offensively while Torrie Jung stopped 31 of 36 shots to fall to 4-4-1 in net this season.
Laredo trailed 4-3 entering the third period but tied the game with 8:06 left in regulation when Darryl Smith took a feed from Daniel Koger and jammed in the pass from the left side of the crease. The goal was Smith's second of the season.
The Riverkings jumped out in front just 29 seconds into the game as Patrik Levesque scored from the left circle on an odd-man rush in his Mississippi debut.
The Bucks tied the game at 1-1 at the 8:39 mark of the first when Jeff Hazelwood scored from the right circle to pick up his fourth tally of the season.
Mississippi outshot Laredo 11-5 in the first period.
The second period was a wild one as the two teams combined for five goals, three by the Riverkings and two by the Bucks; with Mississippi taking a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Laredo took a 2-1 lead just 23 seconds into the second period when Bes jammed in a rebound from the left side of the crease to score a goal in four of the Bucks last five contests.
Mississippi tied the game at 2-2 at the 3:12 mark of the second when Matt Miller scored on a breakaway past the Bucks defense to pick up his third of the season.
The Riverkings would go up 3-2 a little over five minutes later when Christian hammered home a slap shot from the slot on an odd man rush. The goal was Christian's third of the campaign.
The Bucks tied the game at 3-3 with six minutes left in the second when Bes scored his second of the night and seventh of the year. It was Bes' first multi-goal game of the season.
Mississippi would re-take the lead with 3:17 left in the second when R.G Flath had a puck deflect off his shoulder from the slot and slip into the back of the net for his second of the season.
The Riverkings outshot the Bucks 12-10 in the second.
The Bucks were outshot 12-2 in the third period and 36-20 in the game.
Alexander Pechursky stopped 16 of 20 shots as he improves to 4-3 in the Riverkings net.
The Bucks have lost three straight games in Mississippi and have not won at the DeSoto Civic Center since November of 2006.
Serge Dube played in his 400th CHL game Saturday night.
Justin Styffe was officially placed on the 10-day IR retroactive to November 22nd with a lower-body injury.
