Much like the Killer Bees the night before the Mavericks opened a 2-0 lead in the first period. Dominic D'Amour got the Mavs on the board first at 13:56 with a power-play strike from the point.

Penalties would be a sore spot for the Bees throughout the first period with four minor penalties however the penalty kill unit was able to keep the Mavs to 1/4.

The Mavs made it a two goal lead at 19:17 of the first when Derek Pallardy picked up a loose puck in front of Juliano Pagliero and somehow slid it through traffic behind the goal line.

At 2:53 of the second period the Killer Bees found themselves with a two-man advantage and just like the previous night made the Mavs pay for their indiscretions. Darcy Campbell scored his seventh goal of the season, which is second on the team only behind Tomas Klempa, who assisted on his goal.

Through two periods of play the Killer Bees had managed 21 shots on net however Rob Nolan was up to the challenge turning away 20 of them. Pagliero made 18 saves on 21 shots after two periods.

Try as they might the Bees were unable to find the equalizer before time would expire. The Bees pulled the goalie with 50.0 seconds left to create a five-on-three advantage with multiple players in the box but Rob Nolan was able to keep the Bees off the board.
