Komets Claim Vaskivuo off Waivers

Fort Wayne, IN -- The Komets announced Thursday that forward Mike Vaskivuo has been claimed off waivers and is expected to be in the lineup when the Komets host Laredo this Friday night at 8:00.

Vaskivuo (VASK-ih-voo), 26, posted 13 goals and 37 points in 54 games this season with Rapid City before being placed on waivers. The Helsinki, Finland native previously skated two seasons with the Dayton Gems where he made his pro debut in 2009. The center registered 26 goals and 60 points in 65 games with Dayton during 2010-11 before joining Rapid City for his third pro season.

Vaskivuo appeared in four of five meetings this season against the Komets and scored the game-winning goal and added two assists in the lone Rush victory over Fort Wayne Nov. 11 at Rapid City. The Komets won the season series 4-1-0.

Podshendyalov to return to Russia-- The Komets also announced Thursday that winger Artem Podshendyalov has been released from the Fort Wayne lineup. Podshendyalov has decided to return to Russia where he will finish the season in hopes of getting a contract in Russia for next season. The Omsk, Russia native completes the season with Fort Wayne with 18 goals and 43 points in 58 games.

The Bucks stop here this Friday and Saturday-- The Komets host a home double-header weekend against the Laredo Bucks this weekend on Friday night at 8:00 and Saturday at 7:30pm. It will be the first ever meetings for the Komets and Bucks. Laredo (24-33-3, 51 points) has been eliminated from post-season play as they trail fourth-place Rio Grande Valley in the Berry Conference by 14 points with only six games remaining. The Bucks, while idle this week until this weekend in Fort Wayne, are coming off a 4-3 home win against Arizona last Sunday, snapping a five-game winless skid (0-3-2).
