Komets acquire two defensemen

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced today that 2 former Columbus Stars defensemen have been acquired. The Stars suspended operations in the UHL Jan. 9, 2004, and all players on the Columbus roster became free agents. Ryan Coole and Steve Rodberg have agreed to terms with the Komets and may see action when the Komets host the Muskegon Fury this Friday night at 8:05pm.

Coole, 25, is skating his 3rd pro year, first in the UHL after spending the last 2 seasons in the ECHL. Coole appeared in all 34 Columbus games this season posting 8 assists, 9 points and 75 penalty minutes. Coole appeared in the ECHL in stints with Columbia, Pee-Dee and Arkansas ECHL after skating 4 seasons with the University of Minnesota-Duluth NCAA.

Rodberg, 24, also appeared in all 34 Columbus games this season scoring 4 goals, 8 assists, 12 points and 4 penalty minutes. Rodberg is in his 2nd pro season and skated with Coole at the University of Minnesota-Duluth NCAA prior to becoming a pro.

This weekend the Komets play a home-and-home series against the Muskegon Fury beginning Friday night in Fort Wayne at 8:05pm. The series moves to Muskegon for a 7:40pm tilt Saturday night. Still plenty of good seats available for all remaining Komet home games and the Comcast UHL All-Star Game this Sunday at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne at 7:35pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Media note: In addition to the 2 game changes for the Komets noted in yesterday's press release (Jan. 12, 2004), the Komet's opponent for the Jan. 30 home game has been changed from Richmond to Elmira. The following are the Komet schedule changes necessitated because of the Columbus Stars suspending operations:

Scratch the remaining 2 Columbus game dates, at Fort Wayne Apr. 3 and at Columbus Jan. 14.

Add Komet home game Sunday, Feb. 29 vs Kalamazoo, 5:05pm.

Add Komet road game Saturday, Apr. 3 at Muskegon, 7:40pm.

Change the Komet's opponent for the Jan. 30 home game from Richmond to Elmira.
