Fort Wayne, IN - The United Hockey League released it's 2006-07 schedule today and the Komets will begin their 8th UHL season on Friday, Oct. 13 at Rockford against the IceHogs. It will be the Komet's 55th season of hockey in Fort Wayne with the home opener slated for Saturday, Oct. 21 against the Quad City Mallards. Ten UHL teams this season will be split into two conferences. The Komets will play in the Western Conference with Bloomington, Chicago, Quad City and Rockford. The Eastern Conference will include Elmira, Flint, Kalamazoo, Muskegon and Port Huron.

The 2006-07 slate is comprised of 38 home games and 38 road games for a 76-game campaign. In addition to the regular season schedule, Fort Wayne will be the host of the 2007 UHL All-Star Game Jan. 17 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

The Komets schedule carries 13 Friday and 13 Saturday home games in addition to 7 Sunday home tilts for a total of 33 weekend home games. "We are fortunate to have 34 of our 38 home dates on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays," said Komet President Michael Franke. "This is a fan-friendly schedule and it's probably the best schedule we have ever had. The Jan. 17 All-Star Game tops it off."

Holiday Komet Hockey.......The new Bloomington Prairie Thunder will visit Fort Wayne for the traditional Komet Thanksgiving game Thursday, Nov. 23. Former Komet head coach Greg Puhalski will bring his Chicago Hounds to town for the traditional Komet New Year's Eve game. The Komets will be home to celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year hosting Rockford Saturday, March 17.

On the schedule.....the Komets see Quad City and Chicago the most with 11 meetings......10 meetings each are scheduled against Bloomington and Kalamazoo.....the Komets faceoff against Elmira the least with 5 meetings.....the Komets are home to each of the Western Conference rivals 5 times......the Komets will play 3 games in 3 nights 12 times, 4 games in 5 nights 7 times including one 5-in-6 stretch the week between Christmas and New Years.....Komet fans will be treated to back-to-back home games 9 times.

In Exhibition.....the Komets will open a 2-week training camp Monday, October 2. Three exhibition games, including 2 at home and 1 on the road, are planned. The Komets will host Port Huron in a preseason tilt at the Coliseum Wednesday, Oct. 4. Then the Komets will face Kalamazoo in a home-and-home exhibition series starting at Fort Wayne Friday, Oct. 6. Saturday, Oct. 7 the Komets face the Wings at Wings stadium in the final pre-season tune-up.

Komet home start times for 2006-07 are unchanged from last season. Monday-Thursday and Saturday 7:30pm, Friday 8pm and Sunday 5pm. The only exception is the Sunday, New Year's Eve game which will faceoff at 7:30pm.
