
IceHogs to kick off eighth season at home

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs, in conjunction with the United Hockey League, announced its 2006-07 regular season schedule. The upcoming campaign is Rockford's eighth season in the UHL and for the eighth straight year, the Hogs will open up the season at home. The IceHogs kick off the '06-07 campaign on Friday, Oct. 13 against the Fort Wayne Komets at the Rockford MetroCentre.
The '06-07 regular season schedule features 76 games, including 38 at home and 38 on the road, and the UHL will have 10 teams in two conferences. The IceHogs will play in the Western Conference with the rival Quad City Mallards and Fort Wayne Komets, and newcomers Chicago Hounds and Bloomington Prairie Thunder. The Eastern Conference includes the Colonial Cup Champion Kalamazoo Wings, Muskegon Fury, Flint Generals, Port Huron Flags and Elmira Jackals.
The IceHogs home schedule for the '06-07 regular season includes a club all-time high 29 Friday (14) and Saturday (15) contests. The IceHogs will also play six home Wednesday games and three Sunday home affairs during the upcoming season. The Hogs will begin the new season with three straight home games and will wrap up the regular season with nine of the final 13 games at the MetroCentre, including the finale on Saturday, April 7 against Chicago.
Rockford's most frequent opponents during the new season are the Hounds (7 home, 6 road) and Prairie Thunder (6 home, 7 road), whom they will face-off against 13 times each. The Hogs will play the Mallards 12 times (7 home, 5 road) and the Komets 9 times (4 home, 5 road). As for the Eastern Conference opponents, Rockford will drop the puck six times each with Kalamazoo, Flint and Elmira (including three games at home), seven games against Muskegon (3 home, 4 road) and four contests against Port Huron (2 home, 2 road).
The IceHogs longest stretch at home is five games spanning from Jan. 5th-13th. Rockford will embark on three, five-game road swings, the first from January 26th to Feb. 7th, the second Feb. 18th-25th, and the third from March 7th-14th, marking the club's longest road stretches in "Ë06-07.
