Fort Wayne, IN --- The defending Tarry Cup Champion Fort Wayne Komets completed week one of the 2004 training camp with a perfect 3-0-0 record in exhibition games played.

Wednesday the Komets stopped the visiting Missouri River Otters 5-2. The Komet's goals were scored by 5 different players as goalies Nick Niedert (8/9) and Jan Chovan (W, 8/9) shared time in the net. The Komets outshot the RiverOtters 41-18 and were 1/5 with the man advantage.

Friday the Komets hosted the Kalamazoo Wings in the first of a home-and-home preseason series. The Komets grounded the Wings 5-1 as defenseman Tom Nemeth recorded a 3-point (1g, 2a) night while Kevin St. Pierre (W, 20/21) and Kelly Shields (9/9) combined to stop 29 of 30 Kalamazoo shots.

Saturday the Komets and Wings skated at Kalamazoo Wings Stadium in the final tilt of the preseason for both teams. The Komets defeated Kalamazoo 3-1 with newcomer P.C. Drouin scoring a 3-point game (1g, 2a) as Shields and Chovan split time in the net. Shields earned the win stopping all 19 shots faced while Chovan allowed one goal on 29 shots.

Drouin (2g, 2a) and Dustin Virag (2g, 2a) led with 4 points each in the exhibition season. Komet specialty teams were 4/15 (26.7%) on the power play while 13/15 (86.7%) on the penalty kill. The Komets had 87 shots for and allowed 96 shots against.

Game On.....the Komets finish camp this week and will start the 2004-05 campaign on the road at Elmira Friday night at 6:30pm (Fort Wayne time) in the first of 2 trips to First Arena. Saturday the Komets skate at Adirondack at 6:05pm (Fort Wayne time) in the first of 2 visits to the home of the Frostbite. Sunday the Komets travel to Danbury to face the Trashers at 4:30pm (Fort Wayne time) in the first of 2 visits this season. The Komets will open at home Saturday, Oct. 23, Komet home games will start under the same start time arrangement as last year. Monday-Thursday and Saturday games will face-off at 7:30pm, Friday games will begin at 8pm and Sunday games are to start at 5:00pm.

It's Komet Hockey at Comcast KometCast and on WOWO Radio AM 1190.....Komet games this weekend are scheduled to air on WOWO Radio AM 1190 with Bob Chase starting his 52nd consecutive season behind the Komet microphone. Komet games also can be heard this season on the internet at the Komet website at www.komets.com and Comcast KometCast. In addition to live game radio, the Komet's website also features stats, news and information updated daily. The UHL also will feature the return of the U-Ticker, keeping score (boxscore) of all games in progress. A link to U-Ticker is posted on the Komet's website and at the UHL's website www.theuhl.com.

Komets trim camp roster by 7.....seven players were cut from the Komet's training camp roster today including 4 forwards, 1 defenseman and 2 goaltenders. Released were forwards Ben Blakeley, Troy Brummett, Marcus Forsberg and Jason Silverthorn along with defenseman Ben Barrett and goaltenders Jan Chovan and Nick Niedert. Twenty players are now on the Komet roster including 11 forwards, 7 defensemen and 2 goaltenders.

Kotyluk returns to the Fort.....Kevin Kotyluk has re-signed with the Komets and will be in the lineup when the season begins for his 3rd straight campaign. Kotyluk, 24, played 70 games each of the last 2 seasons with the Komets scoring 33 goals and 68 points in 140 games. Last season Kotyluk beat his previous Komet record of 251 penalty minutes, set in 2002-03, posting a new record of 313 penalty minutes for the most by a Komet player in a single UHL season. During his 2 seasons with Fort Wayne Kotyluk has registered a total of 564 penalty minutes.
