Fort Wayne Komets News Release
Fort Wayne, IN --- Komet veteran center and player/assistant coach Colin Chaulk announced his retirement Friday. Chaulk is retiring after a 15-year pro hockey career and 10-year career with the Fort Wayne Komets.
Chaulk, 36, has won five league championships during his career with the Komets (2003, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012). He was also a four-time league Best Defensive Forward of the Year and was named Komets' Team MVP, chosen by the players at the end of the season, on five occasions.
Chaulk began his career after four seasons of juniors play in the OHL in 1998 when he skated with five different teams during the 1998-99 season in four different leagues (WPHL, ECHL, IHL, AHL).
The Toronto, Ontario native appeared in his first season with Fort Wayne in the UHL in 2002-03 when he led the Komets to a UHL regular season title with 59 assists and 82 points before helping the Komets to the UHL Colonial Cup Championship, their first league championship in 20 years.
Chaulk's career year came with the Komets during 2003-04 when he led Fort Wayne to its second straight regular season title scoring 73 assists and 96 points in 71 games. The long-time Komet captain finished the 2012 CHL playoffs with a Fort Wayne team record of 99 post-season appearances and ranks second all-time with Fort Wayne playoff totals of 69 assists and 102 points.
"Colin Chaulk has been the face of the Fort Wayne Komets since he arrived in 2002," said Komet general manager David Franke. "I will always remember Colin as being a great player, leader and above all, respected by his teammates and opponents. Colin will be a great coach. If given the right situations and experience he will gain going forward. He has a great chance to coach at a very high level. Colin, his wife Jillian and daughters Ava and Capri is a great family unit. Colin will always be remembered for his on-ice accomplishments. But his off-ice contributions to the Fort Wayne community and youth hockey are also very special and sincere."
