KELLY CUP EASTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS - GAME 5
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After a one-day reprieve, the Cyclones and Walleye are back on the ice tonight for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. After disposing of the Fish by a 5-2 score on Wednesday, Cincinnati needs just one more victory to advance into the second round. So far in the series, the Clones have outscored Toledo by a 12-5 count - and have notched five goals in back-to-back games.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: $1 JOHN MORRELL HOT DOGS
SCOUTING THE WALLEYE: Nick Vitucci's club has its backs against the wall, needing a win tonight to stave off elimination. Through three games of this best-of-seven set, Toledo's top two scorers from the regular season, Willie Coetzee and Kyle Rogers, have remained silent. Instead, Byron Froese, Joey Martin, and Trevor Parkes lead the Walleye on offense with two points apiece. Kent Simpson suffered his third loss in as-many games on Wednesday, after turning aside just 24 shots. His goals-against average through three contests sits at 3.42. Notre Dame product Jordan Pearce has only played 11 minutes so far in these Quarterfinals, stopping both shots he faced. In the regular season, Pearce went 15-11-2-1 with a 2.76 GAA. He was 1-1-1 versus Cincinnati with a 3.19 GAA.
Newbie Power: The Cyclones top three scorers so far in the postseason have come from a quartet of players that are enjoying their first-ever playoff series'. David Pacan, Mike Embach, Charles-Olivier Roussel, and Trevor Lewis have combined for 17 of Cincinnati's points during this series. Embach's six tallies are tied for most in the Conference during the postseason.
Get on the Board Early: Both teams in this series have been extremely tough to beat when scoring the game's first goal. The Cyclones were 32-9-1-1 in such situations during the regular season while the Walleye finished 23-10-2-3. In playoff action since 2007, the Clones are 29-5 when notching the opening tally.
The Early Birds: Much like during the regular season in 2012-13, the Cyclones have been deadly over the years in postseason action when scoring the game's first goal. They are an astonishing 31-5 since 2007 in such situations. What's even more impressive is their all-time playoff record when leading after 20 minutes - 23-2.
