Charlotte Knights News Release

(Lawrenceville, GA) - Terry Doyle did his job on the mound on Wednesday. His teammates did their job with their bats.

Doyle tossed six shutout innings, every batter in the Knights lineup had at least one hit, and the Charlotte Knights beat the Gwinnett Braves 8-2 on Wednesday night in game two of the three-game series from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA.

Making his fourth start of the season, Doyle (1-1, 3.63) allowed just five hits and one walk, while striking out seven batters en-route to his first career Triple-A victory. He has now gone at least six innings in each of his last three starts and has allowed just two earned runs over that span (18.2 innings pitched).

Offensively, the Knights belted out a season-high 17 hits, including four off the bat of Jim Gallagher. Gallagher went 4-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Knights catcher Josh Phegley added two hits on the evening and extended his hit streak to nine consecutive games. Greg Golson and Conor Jackson each hit home runs.

Braves starter Julio Teheran - the number one prospect in the Atlanta organization as rated by Baseball America, allowed four runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings to take the loss. Teheran (2-1, 3.78) is now 2-2 against the Knights dating back to last season.

Gwinnett's only two runs came in the bottom of the seventh inning off Knights reliever Jhan Carlos Marinez.

The win for the Knights was their third in five games this season against Gwinnett. Charlotte went 2-1 at Knights Stadium against Gwinnett during their last homestand. The Knights will have a chance to win their third-straight series of the season when the two teams conclude this series on Thursday.

Charlotte (11-9) will send LHP Eric Stults (1-0, 1.37) to the mound in Thursday's finale. The Braves (13-7) will counter with RHP Eric Junge (2-1, 4.50). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from Coolray Field.
