(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights fell to the Nashville Sounds by a score of 5-3 in front of a crowd of 8,849 people at Truist Field on Saturday night in game five of the six-game series from Uptown Charlotte.
Outfielder Víctor Reyes led the way offensively for the Knights with a solo homer in the sixth inning as he went 2-4 on the evening with two runs scored. The home run was his team-leading 10th of the season.
On the mound, pitchers Declan Cronin and Bryan Shaw shined in relief for Charlotte, combining to throw three scoreless innings, only giving up two hits with six combined strikeouts. RHP Lane Ramsey (3-4, 5.82) was saddled with the loss, throwing one inning and giving up three runs on two hits with one walk while striking out one batter.
Nashville got on the 'board first in the third inning with a solo home run by Alex Jackson to go up 1-0 on the Knights. The home run was his first of two in the game.
Charlotte claimed the lead in the fourth inning; manufacturing runs with a stolen base followed by a two-run RBI single from infielder Erik González. The single gave the Knights a 2-1 lead, but the lead did not last long.
Jackson hit his second home run of the game in the fifth inning to tie things up at 2-2.
Reyes gave the Knights the lead with his solo home run in the sixth inning to put Charlotte up by a score of 3-2.
In the ninth inning, the Sounds took a 5-3 lead, scoring three runs off of back-to-back walks to open the frame against Ramsey. Both of Nashville's walks came across to score with an RBI double and an RBI single and eventually led to a win.
The Knights will now look to tie the series on Sunday with the finale against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers). The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on www.CharlotteKnights.com.
