Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knight dropped game four of the six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 9-8 from Truist Field on Friday night. Despite the loss, the Knights once again battled back in the late innings.
Down by a score of 9-1, the Knights scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull to within one run. Right fielder Micker Adolfo launched a three-run home run during the seven-run eighth inning. The home run, his eighth of the season, pulled the Knights to within three runs, down by a score of 9-6.
Three batters later, center fielder Mark Payton launched a two-run home run to bring the Knights to within just one run. The home run was Payton's 10th of the season.
In the ninth, the Knights continued to mount a comeback, but were unable to push across anymore runs. With runners on first and second with just one out, Adolfo grounded into a game-ending double play, which sealed the win for the Bulls.
Shortstop Lenyn Sosa continued his solid hitting, recording two doubles on the night for the Knights. Second baseman Yolbert Sánchez also contributed a solid day at the plate, tallying three hits in the game four loss.
RHP Davis Martin (3-2, 3.94) started for the Knights and was saddled with the loss despite a solid effort on the mound. Martin allowed just two runs on two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He walked just one batter and struck-out eight. He tossed 72 pitches.
The Knights will continue the six-game home series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte on Saturday night. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
