Knights Come Back to Win in 14 Innings

August 12, 2011 - International League (IL1)
Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. - It took 14 innings, but the Charlotte Knights were able to come back and defeat the Norfolk Tides 4-3 at Knights Stadium. Knights scored the game winning run on a wild pitch from Norfolk's Zach Phillips that scored Eduardo Escobar from third base.

The Knights loaded the bases in the 14th after Escobar led off the inning with a base hit and advanced to second on an error from the left fielder. Two batters later Jim Gallagher singled to move Escobar to third. The Tides then intentionally walked Dayan Viciedo to bring up Dallas McPherson.

McPherson worked the count to 2-1 when Phillips' pitch sailed high to the backstop and allowed Escobar to score. The 14 inning game lasted four hours and sixteen minutes, a season high for the Knights.

The Knights were able to tie the game in the 8th inning with a solo home run from outfielder Lastings Milledge. It was Milledge's 11th home run of the season.

The two clubs combined to use 11 pitchers. Charlotte's Dan Remenowsky (1-1) earned the win and Phillips (1-1) took the loss.

The Knights and Tides continue their series tomorrow at 7:15 PM at Knights Stadium. RHP Matt Zaleski will start for Charlotte and Norfolk will start RHP Steve Johnson.
