(Fort Mill, SC) - Charlie Shirek has enjoyed pitching on the mound at Knights Stadium this season. Friday's game was no exception.

Shirek improved to 6-1 at home this season after tossing seven solid innings, Greg Golson, Tyler Kuhn and Dan Johnson each ripped three hits, and the Charlotte Knights beat the Indianapolis Indians 6-1 in game two of their four-game series from Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, SC on Friday evening. Knights reliever Donnie Veal closed the door after two scoreless innings and the Knights won their 40th game of the season.

For the third night in-a-row, the Knights had a double-digit hit total - blasting 14 hits en route to their seventh win over their last 10 games. Nine of the club's hits came from the top of the order, as Golson, Kuhn and Johnson led the way. Golson finished the night 3-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base, while Kuhn was 3-5 with two RBIs and Dan Johnson was 3-5 with an RBI.

Shirek (7-3, 3.66) struck-out seven batters, allowed just four hits on the evening and won for the fourth time over his last six starts. The 26-year-old right-hander walked just one batter and dazzled the first place Indians for seven strong frames. It was the fifth time this season he has gone at least seven innings.

Charlotte (40-29) scored five of their six runs off of Indianapolis starter Daniel Cabrera (2-3, 3.18), who allowed five runs on 10 hits over four innings and was saddled with the loss. The former Major Leaguer, who missed the entire 2011 season recovering from "Tommy John" surgery, also walked two and struck-out two batters.

Also for the Knights, infielder Ray Olmedo extended his hit streak to seven straight games and catcher Josh Phegely extended his streak to six consecutive games.

Charlotte and Indianapolis will play game three of the series on Saturday night from Knights Stadium. RHP Matt Zaleski will get the nod for the Knights, while the Indians will counter with LHP Rudy Owens. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. After the game, the Knights will light-up-the-sky with post-game fireworks, courtesy of 1110 WBT, Carolina Weekly and Time Warner Cable.
