Charlotte Knights News Release
(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) -- RHP Johan Domínguez tossed six shutout innings and the Charlotte Knights scored eight runs on 11 hits en route to an exciting 8-1 win over the Gwinnett Stripers in game two of the six-game series on Wednesday night from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. Wednesday's win snapped Charlotte's six-game losing skid.
Making his fifth start of the season, Domínguez (3-2, 4.50) was remarkable through six innings. The 28-year-old allowed just two hits and fanned five batters over six scoreless innings for the win. He threw 75 pitches on the night, 49 for strikes.
The Knights jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a stand-up triple by Zach Deloach, who later scored on a sacrifice-fly RBI by Carlos Pérez. Two innings later, Angelo Castellano launched a solo home run, his third of the season. Charlotte added a third run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Oscar Colás.
The Charlotte offense continued to score in the top of the seventh and top of the eighth. The Knights scored three runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by an RBI single by Castellano. One inning later, the Knights added two more in the top of the eighth to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Wilmer Difo had a key two-run single in the eighth to help the Knights pull away with the win.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Stripers scored for the first and only time of the game - preventing the Knights from a shutout. Eli White singled home Forrest Wall, but J.P. Martinez was thrown out a third base to end the game and seal the win for the Knights.
The Knights will continue the six-game road series against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) on Thursday night from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com at 7:00 p.m. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
