
Knighthawks Open 2009 Season On December 27th In Chicago

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they will open their 2009 National Lacrosse League schedule at Chicago on Saturday, December 27th. The Knighthawks will battle the East Division Shamrox at 8:00 p.m. Rochester will also host Chicago in their home opener on Saturday, January 10th at 8:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.
The Knighthawks enter their 15th season in the National Lacrosse League in 2009. Rochester won the 2007 Champion's Cup, which was the second title in the franchise's history. Rochester won its first championship in 1997.
The Knighthawks' 16-game schedule features three games against the defending champion Buffalo Bandits and three contests against the rival Toronto Rock. Rochester will also play a pair of games against the expansion Boston Blazers, the New York Titans and the Chicago Shamrox. The final four games include road games against West Division's San Jose Stealth and the Portland LumberJax, and home games against the Minnesota Swarm and the Philadelphia Wings.
The longest home stretch of the season is a three-game homestand from late February to early March. The home slate begins with a 7:35 p.m. game against Casey Powell and the New York Titans on Saturday, February 21st. The following Saturday, the Knighthawks host the Toronto Rock at The Blue Cross Arena at 7:35 p.m. On Saturday, March 14th, Rochester will host the Buffalo Bandits for the only time this season at 7:35 p.m.
The longest road trip of the season is in April as the Knighthawks play at Buffalo, Portland and Boston. The road trek begins in Portland on Saturday, April 4th against the 2008 NLL Finalist LumberJax. The next weekend, Rochester plays two road games in two nights. The Knighthawks battle Buffalo at HSBC Arena on Friday, April 10th and then fly to Boston to play the Blazers at TD Banknorth Garden on Saturday, April 11th.
The league also announced it will hold the 2009 NLL All-Star Game on Saturday, March 7th. The NLL will name the host club and the location in the near future.
