
Jax Open 2009 Schedule On January 3rd

PORTLAND, September 2, 2008 - The defending West Division Champion Portland LumberJax will begin their quest for the Champion's Cup on Saturday, January 3rd at 7:30 p.m. PST at the Rose Garden Arena as they host the new division rival Minnesota Swarm. The National Lacrosse League unveiled its 2009 regular season schedule today, with Portland opening up at home on January 3rd.
Six days later, On Friday, January 9th, Portland hosts the Colorado Mammoth at 7:30 p.m. in the first of three meetings between the two rivals. One night later, the Jax are in Colorado to complete the home-and-home at 6 p.m. at the Pepsi Center.
The road trip continues on Friday, January 16th as Portland travels to Edmonton to meet the Rush at 6:30 p.m. at Rexall Place. The Jax won two of three meetings last season and hold a 6-2 lead in the series history. In all, Portland holds a +21 margin in goal scoring over the Rush and has won four times by four goals or more.
The Jax begin their second homestand of the season on Friday, January 23rd as they play host to the Calgary Roughnecks at 7:30 p.m. Portland captured the West Division Crown by beating the Roughnecks 16-12 on May 10th in Calgary.
After a bye week, the homestand culminates on Saturday, February 7th as Portland hosts the San Jose Stealth at 7:30 p.m. The Jax and Stealth engaged in two of the more entertaining games last season. On April 18th at the HP Pavilion, Portland beat the Stealth 12-11 in overtime to clinch its second-ever playoff berth. Then, in the West Division Semifinal, the Jax outlasted the Stealth 18-16 to win their first-ever playoff game.
After another bye week, Portland travels to Calgary on Sunday, February 22nd to meet the Roughnecks at 2 p.m. at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The Jax have only won once in Calgary, but it was the West Division Championship on May 10th.
Edmonton makes its only stop to the Rose City during the 2009 regular season on Saturday, February 28th at 7:30 p.m. The Jax have won four of the five meetings all-time at the Rose Garden.
The NLL All-Star Game serves as a mid-season break on Saturday, March 7th. A time and host location will be announced at a later date.
Portland begins the second half of the 2009 season with a three game road trip. On Friday, March 13th, the Jax will be in Edmonton to meet the Rush for the final time during the regular season at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, March 21st, Portland travels to Buffalo to meet the Bandits at 4:30 p.m. at HSBC Arena. This is a date to circle as it features a rematch of last season's championship game. The Bandits were victorious 14-13 in the league's closest championship game since 2002.
The road swing concludes on Saturday, March 28th as the Jax travel to San Jose to meet the Stealth at 12:30 p.m. at the HP Pavilion. The Pavilion has been Portland's home away from home for the past three seasons as the Jax have won their last three meetings there. In fact, in the 10 game history, the road team has won eight of the 10 meetings.
One day later, Portland and San Jose complete the home-and-home at 3 p.m. at the Rose Garden.
After a road game in Colorado on Friday, April 3rd at 6 p.m., the Jax return home to host the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday, April 4th at 7:30 p.m. Portland has not played Rochester since the 2007 season and has not hosted the Knighthawks since 2006.
Portland travels to Chicago to meet the Shamrox on Saturday, April 11th at 5 p.m. at the Sears Centre Arena. The will be the first meeting in franchise history between the two clubs.
The Jax wrap-up the 2009 regular season on Friday, April 17th as the expansion Boston Blazers travel to Portland. Former forward Dan Dawson, who helped lead Portland to the championship game, will make his highly anticipated return to the Rose Garden.
