San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF will continue serving as the club's radio broadcast stations in English and Spanish, respectively. Quakes matches began airing on KNBR in 2017, while KZSF "La Kaliente" will be the team's Spanish-language home for the eight-consecutive season.
"KNBR and KZSF have been terrific partners for us and we're looking forward to continued success in 2018," Earthquakes Executive Vice President Jed Mettee said. "We're proud to have aligned ourselves with two of the strongest radio brands in the Bay Area and their excellent broadcast teams."
KNBR has a reputation of being one of America's top sports radio stations. In addition to serving as the official home of the Earthquakes, KNBR is also the premier radio station of other teams in the Bay Area such as the San Francisco Giants and the San Francisco 49ers. KNBR 1050 will also continue to host The Soccer Hour, presented by the San Jose Earthquakes, every Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m.
The broadcast team will include Ted Ramey and Joe Cannon. Ramey will serve as the primary play-by-play voice for home and away broadcasts for the fifth consecutive year, while Cannon will serve as the color analyst for home broadcasts.
Ramey has built a diverse resume in sports broadcasting since joining KNBR in 2009. He worked for the San Francisco Giants postgame show as well as ESPN Radio and AP. He then became the morning Sports Anchor for KNBR 1050 and "The Lamont and Tonelli Show" on 107.7 The Bone in 2012.
Cannon comes back to the KNBR 1050 broadcasting booth for his fifth year after recently being inducted into the San Jose Earthquakes Hall of Fame in 2017. He started his Quakes career in 1999, helped San Jose win its first MLS Cup in 2001 and later captured 2002 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year honors. During his career, Cannon spent seven seasons with the Quakes and still leads the club's goalkeeping records in games started (171), minutes played (15,561), wins (66) and saves (693).
1370 KZSF is a locally-owned Spanish language station that hosts daily sports talk shows and also plays a wide variety of pop-music.
Carlos Cesar Rivera returns as the Spanish-language broadcaster for the Earthquakes for his 11th consecutive season. Rivera hosts La Kaliente's sports talk show from 5-7 p.m. PT Monday through Friday on that covers MLS and Liga MX, as well as many other sports teams in the Bay Area. He also anchors the morning show on La Kaliente. Rivera came to the Earthquakes with a distinguished sports broadcasting background, having called games for the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants and the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks in his career.
