Red Bull New York News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - The New York Red Bulls and Club Deportivo Olimpia will clash for Leg Two on Thursday in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League on Thursday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. Leg Two will kick off at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on Univision Deportes alongside Red Bulls Radio in English on TuneIn.
New York Red Bulls Radio goes live at 7 p.m. ET with triHonda Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley.
New York began the CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 with a strong first 45 minutes against CD Olimpia in Leg One. The Red Bulls found a goal off the head of Daniel Royer in the 31st to gain the early lead. Olimpia tallied the equalizer 73rd minute to come away with the tie. With the away goal, New York currently holds the tie breaker if the Leg 2 match were to end in a scoreless draw.
It was the fifth time in the last six seasons that New York has begun their season with a draw and third time ending in a 1-1 tie. The Red Bulls are 1-2-1 following a tie to begin the season.
Daniel Royer and Bradley Wright-Phillips hit major marks in Red Bull jerseys against Olimpia on Thursday.
Royer's first-half goal gave him a goal in all four major American competitions (MLS Regular-Season, MLS Playoffs, U.S. Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League) to raise his total to 17. It took Royer just 42 games across all competitions to check off a goal in each competition as a Red Bull.
Wright-Phillips also accomplished a feat with his assist on Royer's goal as he now has tallied a goal and an assist in all four major competitions. In 169 games played across all competitions, BWP has accrued 100 goals and 20 assists.
If New York advances past Olimpia, they will face the winner of Tijuana/Motagua in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals.
