Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Ben Kline hit a solo home run on his first Midwest League pitch, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (36-24, 74-56) fell to the Dayton Dragons (26-32, 56-72) 8-4 on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Juniel Querecuto also had two hits, but a Yorman Rodriguez seventh inning grand slam was a blow the Hot Rods could not overcome in the attempt to sweep the Dragons.
The Dragons took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Hot Rods immediately answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. With one out, Kline lined a solo home run down the line in left field into the Hot Rods bullpen. Kline was making his Hot Rods debut in the at bat and homered on the first pitch from Dragon starter Ismael Guillon. Bowling Green added another run later in the inning on an RBI-single from Juniel Querecuto.
In a 2-2 game in the bottom of the sixth, the Hot Rods took another one-run lead on an RBI-single with one out from Cameron Seitzer, scoring Jeff Malm from second base. However by the end of the seventh inning, the Hot Rods found themselves trailing 7-3 due to a five-run fifth inning from the Dragons. Yorman Rodriguez smashed a grand slam into the Home Run Grill in left field, forcing Hot Rods start Ryan Carpenter to leave the game.
Both teams traded runs in the eighth inning, but the Hot Rods were unable to stage a comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning.
A seven-game road trip to South Bend, IN, and Eastlake, OH, commences on Saturday at 6:05 PM CDT at Coveleski Stadium, home of the South Bend Silver Hawks, the Class A Affiliates of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Hot Rods will give the start to LHP Sean Bierman (0-0, 0.00), who will be making his debut with the team. The Silver Hawks are countering with RHP Archie Bradley (11-5, 3.62)
Tune in to the game on the flagship station for the Hot Rods Radio Network, 1340 WBGN-AM The Ticket and online at BGHotRods.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 5:45 PM CDT.
